Question about Idaho?

Thread Starter
I'm not from Idaho, not have been there recently. BUT....

I just read on a mainstream January Birth board (babycenter...I know, don't get me started ) and someone said that BF'ing is ILLEGAL in Idaho? Is this really true?

Just hearing it makes me want to go to Idaho and BF in public everywhere I can think of that might get me reported :

Oh my lord, of course it isn't illegal. We're not quite that backwards.

This is what I found about Idaho and the law in regards to breastfeeding. Nothing protecting a mother's right to NIP, but if a breastfeeding mother is exempt from jury duty, it can't be illegal to nurse.

Quote:
IDAHO

Idaho exempts breastfeeding mothers from jury duty.

Idaho Code § 2-209, §2-212
1996 Ida. ALS 189; 1996 Idaho Sess. 189; 1996 Ida. Ch. 189; 1996 Ida. SB 1468

Idaho Code §2-209

The Court shall provide that a mother nursing her child shall have service postponed until she is no longer nursing the child.

Idaho Code § 2-212

A person who is not disqualified for jury service under section 2-209, Idaho Code, may have jury service postponed by the court or the jury commissioner only upon a showing of undue hardship, extreme inconvenience, or public necessity, or upon a showing that the juror is a mother breastfeeding her child."

See http://www.mothering.com/articles/ne...ation-law.html . Breastfeeding in public is not illegal anywhere in the US. It isn't protected everywhere but it isn't illegal anywhere.

I like to let people think we're Neanderthals here in Idaho, so they're not tempted to move here and change all of our delightful country ruralness into overpopulation.

Ok, you peaked my interest so I had to google it! At Breastfeeding.com they have this to say:
The good news about breastfeeding in public is that in the United States, women are gaining more breastfeeding rights. In 1998, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (a Democrat from New York) introduced legislation (The Right to Breastfeed Act, H.R. 1848) to protect a woman's right to breastfeed on federal property where she and her child have a right to be. The bill was signed into law on Sept. 28, 1999 when President Clinton signed the Treasury Postal Appropriations bill, which included Rep. Maloney's Right to Breastfeed Act.
You can contact your local representatives to find out what type of legislation already exists in your state (Many states have laws protecting nursing mothers, some do not, but that does not mean breastfeeding in public is illegal anywhere!)

Hope this helps!
