Our insurance requires us to use Express Scripts for one of my DD's medications. She takes about 7 different meds when she is "healthy". Twice a month I keep getting a letter in the mail from CuraScript, their speciality pharmacy. They want me to switch all of my meds over to their service. We have co-pays ranging from 15-50 dollars for each of her 7 meds, and paying 7 co-pays x 3 months each just isn't feasible for us. I have repeatedly asked for them not to send us the extra mailings, just our bills. I kept getting told that the mailings would be stopped, but I'm still receiving them. Yesterday I talked to another unfriendly lady who ended up telling me that the mailings were "automatic" and there was no way to stop them. So I guess Express Scripts is on a campaign of harrassment against their customers until they bow down and submit to having all of their meds filled there.
I know most people would say to just throw the mailings away. They are packaged just like your bills, so you atleast have to open them to make sure. And then there is the claim from the company that they serve "tens of millions" of customers. Not knowing exactly what they number is, let's estimate. Say 5 million customers that aren't using them exclusively (I'm hoping the people that use the service for all of their meds don't get the stupid mailing) that's 5 million people x 24 mailings a year. 120 million mailings. Or if it's more like 10 million people x 24 mailings a year that equals 240 million mailings. I'm guessing a lot of people don't recycle, and no where on their mailing does it say that their paper they are using is post-consumer product. So between 120 million and 240 million mailings from virgin paper. Most it if probably ends up in the trash. I find that insanely ironic that they sell breathing medications for lungs and then turn around and pollute the enviroment so much. I guess that keeps people coming back to them for more breathing meds and insures continued business!
If anyone would like to write to Express Scripts to express their unhappiness with this issue, here is the address:
Steven Miller, MD, (senior vice president and chief medical officer)
