Contractions and the urge to pee..?

Hey ladies, just wondering if any one else is experiencing this same thing.

I'm not sure which one is causing the other or if they even are related but it seems every time I have a contraction I also feel the need to pee. Likewise when I feel the urge to pee I seem to have a contraction. I was noticing this a week or two ago then it seemed to go away, but now it's back. I've had a lot of contractions today and seem to be peeing ever 30-60 min. The baby is also moving a lot too.

Anyone else? Is the contraction causing my bladder to feel full and/or is my bladder being/feeling full causing a contraction?

Just curious.

On a side note I feel awful... Tired and worn out no energy very unlike me especially since I haven't done a whole lot today? I hope it goes away.

The contraction may be causing the baby to shift and create pressure against your bladder, making you feel like you have to pee more often. Your bladder being full can also cause contractions to feel more strongly since it causes your uterus to pull against the ligaments in your pelvis. I notice this especially in the morning when my bladder is full. I'd say it may be a combination of both.

I get the same thing.

In fact, when I have to get up and pee at night, its usually because I'm having a big contraction. Often by the time I get to the bathroom and start peeing, I find that there wasn't as much pee in there as I thought, but the contraction made it feel like I had a gallon!

I'm not sure. I seem to need to pee constantly. And not sure if it's just in my head, but it seems since he's dropped (if he has indeed) that I almost have to actually make an effort of sorts and push to pee past his head (if that makes sense).

When I was up at L&D last week, when they noticed I was having contractions, they wanted to check my cervix. I asked if I could go to the bathroom first--I was ready to burst, as I'd been laying down for over 2 hours at that point. The nurse said that could have been the reason for some of my contractions, that they may settle down after I emptied my bladder.

Now when I feel extra tight, I go to the bathroom, and it does help.

I don't know the answer to your question, but it seems like every time I pee I have a contraction.

Yup, I feel it too. And I know if I have to pee I better do it NOW because if I have a contraction it will hurt like heck and I might pee myself. lol Its really annoying to wake up and not sure if I have to pee or an just having a contraction.

I hear ya. I don't think I've ever felt this bad!: I told DH I was a little concerned as I never had a contraction on my own with DD, but I was dialated to about 5 when I was induced. I've been rather crampy at night for the past few and I can't get comfortable no matter what I try. I still can't find my cervix, and I had no problems before it tucked up, so I know what I'm feeling for. I hope this isn't the real early stages, I still have 5 weeks to go. I do have an appt tomorrow, so I will be asking what her cut-off is as far as homebirth.

This is me exactly! I get up 4 or 5 times a night to pee, oh, about a teaspoon. Sooo frustrating!

I get this too - during a tight contraction I need to run to the bathroom to pee!

Glad its normal and I'm not alone. Its definitely annoying though specially when I'm somewhere (like in the car) where I can't get to a bathroom soon enough.

On a good note I am feeling much better today! Atleast for now anyways

This has been happening to me too! Now that I can really "feel" contractions, whenever I do have one it's coupled with the intense need to pee! On top of all the peeing I'm already doing

I think I peed with every contraction during my first labor! We literally had to stop at a gas station on the way to the hospital with him because I had to pee so badly! I just think it is the pressure being put on your bladder with the contractions.

Same here, and i don't like it. The DH was reading a birth book the other night and there was a picture of where the baby is the womens internal body parts ect.. and he said "wow the baby really IS right on your bladder"
Ummm DUH, do you think i was lieing about having to pee every 5 minutes, or did you think that i just really love the bathroom???!!!
