Sore looking foreskin in 15 mon old

Hello Wise mamas,

This morning when I changed my 15 mon old son after he woke up his foreskin was red and swollen and has a red scratch? on it. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, he let me wipe it off with a soft cloth and some diluted calendula wash (his normal wipe solution) I then sprayed him down with breast milk and put a fresh cloth diaper on him and wool cover.

What could this be? He had a bath last night with some natural bubble bath and I washed him and just lightly sponged over his genital area. I of course never retract him and DH is intact so he also knows never to retract DS. DS has discovered he loves to play and pull on his penis so I am wondering if maybe he scratched himself in the bath or after wards when I was drying him off and diapering him?

How should I proceed in the care of his sore looking foreskin? When is a Dr.s visit in order? DH has said that he has had an "irritated" foreskin before and didn't really do anything besides wash it (DH hasn't seen DS yet as he is at work)

Any advice is really appreciated, thank you.

It sounds like he did indeed scratch himself some helpful things to help can be found in this thread http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

If it looks like it is getting infected you can put otc bacatracin oinment on it. Dont use neosporine.

It's probably a touch of diaper rash. Put some diaper cream on it, give it some diaper free time to air out, and stop using bubble bath. If it persists, treat for yeast.

Glad it is clearing up. Just normal development of his foreskin. Nothing to worry about.
