Freecycle question

I've never used Freecycle before. I have a lawnmower that does not work. Ordinarily, I wouldn't think to list something like that-- who on earth wants a broken lawnmower?-- but after reading the thread here on "weirdest Freecycle listings", I realize that it's not that odd.

Would it be worthwhile to post it? Would it be safe to have whomever wants it, come pick it up from my home? It's kind of the whole point, to get it off the front porch...

Somebody might want it, I'd post it. Have them come when somebody else could be around if you're uncomfortable being there alone when they come.

Yeah, someone out there most likely knows how to fix lawnmowers. They'll take it, trust me. Just make sure you say it doesn't work.

Definitely list it!

Yeah, list it!

I listed our old mower, which did work, but had a faulty switch.

Someone came right over and said he could fix it easily and asked if I was really sure I wouldn't rather keep it. I told him to enjoy it.

It was electric (needed a 12g extension cord, too) and we had moved to a house with a bigger yard. A gas mower made more sense for us at that point.

I still have my reel mower. DH wants me to freecycle it, but I'd rather learn how to sharpen the blades and then use it on the front yard myself. I can't handle the gas mower (health reasons), but I always enjoyed the reel mower.

List it!! I'm the weirdo who will take peoples used baby toys(rattles & such) not for my own baby but for my cockatoo's. Most people I know won't touch a used rattle for a human baby so I always get weird looks when I scramble for them, but yanno there's always someone out there who will have a use for your 'junk'.

as for pick-ups. You might consider leaving it at the end of your driveway so the person picking up just takes it and go.

depending on the street traffic of your area, you might try just leaving it at the curb with a "free but not working" sign, at the end of driveway and someone might just pick it up without have to deal with posting on freecycle.

yup - we were going to list ours, but Mr Toona put it on the curb, and in hours a fellow came up asking about it and it's gone.

Ha, it worked! Lawnmower is now gone, and the guy is interested in buying DH's old pickup truck, too, that's been sitting in our drive for almost a year now. Yay!

I ended up using Craig's List, though, because it's more user-friendly, at least to my eyes.

That is usually how it goes w us! One time someone listed a box of kid books and they lived a few blocks away. I said I could come right away and I mentioned I had a huge box of sheet music that the person who it was promised to stood me up. They said, bring that over! So it was more a tradecycle than freecycle, but both parties were happy.

I started the funny freecyle thread. My DH swears by Craigslist and Ebay. He is not crazy about freecycle but has me list stuff for him all the time. If we didnt have CL or ebay, I am not sure how we would be able to do all our DIY projects since we get a ton of stuff from that.
