My 6.5 year old practices the piano by herself and she has been taking lessons for almost 2 years. My 8 year old son just (this past week) quit the violin after almost 2 years old lessons because he just really does not want to deal with the practicing and the discipline. It was a tough decision for him, but I respect it. Every child is different, what they are capable of.
