Peee-ew!

So I've noticed the past few times I've washed my diapers, they haven't come out smelling very good.

I have HE washer/dryer and I feel like I'm always battling whether or not I'm using too much (or not enough) detergent. I use Allens Natural. My typical cycle is cold/cold and then I do a hot/cold with a pre wash with a 1/4 scoop of oxy clean right in the drum- extra rinse.

I have BG 3.0s and FB's.

I've heard about stripping with Dawn (I think?) but HE washers are so picky about soap I can't imagine using dish soap in them.

I had someone recommend bleach but I'm so leery of that- I don't even keep it in the house.

Can anyone help?

I had stink issues with my BG 3.0s last week and I was desperate for a solution. I used the Dawn stripping method and it worked great! One TBSP of dawn in a large hot water load, then I ran 2 more hot water cycles with no soap to get all of the suds out. The stink is totally gone. It was magical. I have a TL washer though, do you know anyone in your family who would let you use their washer to strip?

Now I'm using Charlie's soap, and I see a big difference, When I look in the last rinse cycle the water is crystal clear. Maybe try that since you use the ssame amount in a HE washer as any other so there's no guess work. It is incredibly low-sudsing.

Try vinegar. Like a full cup in a wash load. If there is any bacteria that is causing the stink, the vinegar will take care of it. Soap residue you do have to strip, but I understand being leary of using dawn. Try the vinegar first and see what happens

When I strip diapers I add a pot of boiling hot water into my washing machine to boost the temperature up since my hot water heater is set at 120. I also routinely add vinegar to the rinse cycle.

I often use Oxyclean in addition to laundry soap for regular washes, and I think you can also try to use it alone as a stripping agent. Oxyclean is considered relatively safe, it is basically washing soda and hydrogen peroxide.
