BF changes and solids - need advice

My wonderful, almost 7 month old son (my second) started solids a few weeks ago.

Since then, he went from sleeping through the night (I totally lucked out with this kid! to nursing all night (well, 1 am - 9 am) and hardly nursing during the day.

He is also teething (but has been for months) so I'm not sure if it's just that those teeth are almost in OR the solids.

Anyone have any ideas?

thanks!

How much solids is he eating?

At his age, and up until a year, solids are just for tastes, not for meals. I believe he should be getting 95% of all of his nutrition from bm at this age. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Most days, he'll have 1-2T of cereal combined with fruit or vegies about twice a day. He loves it!

My dd just turned 7 mo, and I found the cereal to be a MAJOR night time awakener. We only tried it twice and she was awake and nursing soooo much. I think even if they don't fuss, it causes tummy/digestive pain/discomfort. Also, carrots really caused night waking too. I would do a few days of no solids and see what he does. good luck.

I also started dd on solids at 6 1/2 mo - we went real slow - 1-2 tbs every other day. Cereals were really constipating for dd so we stuck to fruit and veges.

She also started waking more but I think it had more to do with all the developments happening in the 6-12 mo age group - crawling, cruising, teething, talking, walking - so many new skills are emerging. I read a thread on one of the forums here once about this 6-12 mo stage - how babies who previously were great sleepers, suddenly started waking more. They're also so much more distractible during the day when you're trying to nurse. I've basically given up on nursing dd (now 11 mo) when we're out because she's too busy. The only chance I have of nursing her is when we're home and in the darkened, quiet bedroom.

I'd follow your baby's cues. All babies differ. I now think I should have given my dd more solids because between 6-9 months her weight just plummeted. (I didn't want the solids crowding out the BM). Now I've upped the solids, she's gaining weight better. Yet you hear of other babies who nurse and hardly eat any solids until about 1 year and they're fine.

My 5 month old was sleeping 7 hours a night since she was 2 weeks old, and had been the perfect baby until this whole teething thing. Now she is quite irretable and has the hardest time falling asleep. I give her hylands teething tablets and that helps. I dont think solids has anything to do with it. Mine loves carrots.

Good Advice, all around.

I think it's really the teething that's the issue. He just poked through a teeny part of one tooth and already he's nursing much better during the day and sleeping better at night. Poor little guy, he must have really been hurting.
