This evening my dh and I were having another one of our parenting convos....
"How do you feel about xyz?". We were talking about breastfeeding and he brought up how he plans to keep his work breastfeeding friendly (it already is, but we were talking about maybe getting a breastfeeding friendly sticker, helping to educate other staff, etc). And then I said "when do you think a child should wean?" And his reply was "when he is ready"!!!
He then told me about a fellow class mate in school who nursed 'til age 9 and everyone thought it was odd. He didn't say how he felt, but went on to say that the mother was just caring for her son the very best way she knew and that the child was only an innocent child!
I said "it isn't like he was nursing at the park. Most kids generally slow down like before bed or in the morning". He said "why does it matter if he nursed at the park, he is a child being comforted by his mother!"
.
My dh makes me cry. Supports my ideas and even raises my bar. Helps me revulate what is 'okay' and why. I couldn't ask for more.
I had to share. I'm going to get him a 'real men support breastfeeding' t-shirt for his birthday (hopefully ill be a few months along by then, to set the tone yk). I could go on and on about how awesome this man is! Sob.
