My newborn loves the sling!!! Hurray!

I couldn't decide where to post this, but I am just so excited that my daughter loves to be in the sling!!
With DS, the only sling/wrap I had when he was born was not adjustable and I mistakenly ordered one too big, not knowing how big I'd be PP. I didn't really have the $$ to buy a 2nd one, so I did without for about a month, and then started researching it and found that I could sew my own ring sling. I did finally buy a mei tai when he was about 2 mo's, which he liked, but not for long stretches of time, and by the time I finally got around to sewing a ring sling, he wasn't fond of it either- he'd rather just be held and I attribute it to not being able to start early. So I didn't use the sling with him until he was big enough for the hip carry and still not as much as I'd like to have.

BUT NOW! Haaaaallllllelujah!!! My DD (born 4/5/09, now almost 3 wks) loooooves to be in the sling! When she gets fussy, and nothing else seems to pacify her, I can put her in the sling and she goes right to sleep! I've always heard people talking about their children doing that, and how wonderful and convenient it is to babywear, but that just was never the case with DS, and I was a little disappointed by it (I did still wear him quite a bit, but for my own convenience, not because he liked it very much). But this time, I've got some experience under my wings with making slings (I started giving them as baby shower gifts), so I made myself a special small one for while she's a newborn, and I still have my larger one for when she gets bigger, too. I can take her in the store, and as long as I pop her in the sling, she'll just sleep the whole time unless she gets hungry (which isn't very often). I can't get over how awesome this is to have a wearable baby! haha! I'm laughing at myself for being so giddy over it, but this really is something I've dreamed of and now it's coming true, and I'm just really glad.
Just wanted to share!

That IS exciting!!! I never quite got the hang of the sling, although now at 1 yr. we do use it for a hip carry sometimes. If (when?) I have another baby, I want to give the sling another try! (Fortunately we had success with other options!) Congratulations!!

My newborn loves the sling too, but this has actually led to a question/potential problem: if I wear him most of the day, he sleeps most of the day, and is wide awake wanting to be nursed all night long. Any advice on bringing him into alignment with day and night while using the wrap? Thanks!

Hi...
awesome to hear it is working for you. My newborn, just a few days older than yours (congrats! ), isn't liking the ring sling. What position do you have your baby in?

Thanks everybody! It's great to have a place to share my excitement, because most of the folks I know IRL wouldn't have the same appreciation as you guys.

I wish I could help you there! DD is a good sleeper at nighttime and the day. I do take her out of the sling when I can just sit down with her and I don't have to worry about doing other things. You might just try creating some time to take him out for daytime awake time? That's all I can think of.

Thanks for the congrats! Congrats to you too!!
Ummm... the position we're using... I kind of improvised a position that I don't know a specific name for. I guess it's basically she's upright, facing me, but due to the hang of the sling, she's more at a diagonal than straight up and down. One thing I've noticed I have to do to keep her from just scrunching into a ball with no neck support is, I put her feet toward the innermost part of the sling's pouch on the non-ring side, and her head ends up resting against the outer edge of the pouch. She's not laying parallel with the length of the sling, but across it a little bit. Does that make sense?

When I have tried laying her parallel with the sling, she just balls up and it seems like she can't breath very well, but laying across the fabric, she's mostly straight.
