Swiffer Wet Jets?

Are these any good? We are renting and have tile floors (blech). With three kids under 5, the floors are a mess and I am sick of it.

Are these very frugal? Or are they a waste of money and I should just stick with my regular mop?

I had one and did not like it. Plus, you have to keep buying the mop cloth things.

I have an H2O mop now and LOVE it. : It comes with 2 microfiber pads and you just wash those in the washing machine. It does GREAT on my tile, wood, and laminate (we don't have any carpet).

It's an investment at first (around 100 bucks) but it is WELL worth it. You won't be buying those swiffer cloths all the time, so you will save in the long run, and you won't have to buy the swiffer wet jet solution all the time, either. You just use water. It's awesome. No odor from cleaning products, just clean! I love love love it.

I think if you go on the website or order it from the infomercial, you can make payments. I just bought mine on a whim at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I am SO glad I did.

for me it was a HUGE waste of money. Per principal I was a very nice concept, but between buying the refil mop pads and refil solutions it was one of the more expensive solutions out there.
And all the solutions smelled so strong that I had a headach everytime I mopped.

What I did was buy a Orange glo mom - it has a washable - replaceable microfiber cleaning head, and you spray whatever cleaner you want on the floor and mop.
You can also safety pin an old cloth diaper on it also and it works VERY well.

I have one and love it! Whereas before I never ever had time to do the floors, now they get done regularly, and it's so easy. I live in a 3 storey house so I would never do it before because it was so hard to drag a bucket and mop all over. The swiffer is very light weight and I can take it around with me easily. the expense and un-eco ness were a compromise I had to make as I couldn't stand the dirt anymore.

But I will look into the other options PP have mentioned, I just wasn't aware of them.

Becomes frugal when you go guerilla on it, using your own non toxic cleaner and rags!

When it comes to buying the pads and all for swiffers and such you can actually crochet cozys for them so you can just wash it and slip it back on. I think there are a few free patterns out there...and I'm sure there are some mommas that would crochet them for ya and barter or do it for cost. I know I would. LOL

Reading the ingrediant list and decide if you want your kiddos absorbing the stuff.

You can refill the Swiffer bottles with your own solution. I use a vinegar solution in mine. Just very carefully take a razor knife and go around the edge of the cap. Then, you may have to take plyers to get it off the first time. After that it should just crew on and off.

LOVE this! Thank you!!! I LOVE mine except for the cost of refills, and the HEADACHE from the fumes-- so I will be doing this now! Thanks!! :

I hated mine when I had it. Didn't seem to pick up any actual dirt... Things that were too small for the broom (read minuscule dust, hairs, etc) , were too large for the swiffer pad to pick up. I always had to handwash the floors afterwards. Sure it picked up some stuff, and the pad would turn grey, but mostly it pushed dust around into clumps I had to pick up by hand, and lets not talk about the cat hair

I ended up using it only for a month or two and then bought a cheap mop and pail and have never looked back

D'oh--I didn't read this when I posted.

I got some awesome microfiber cloths on Etsy that work great instead of the Swiffer pads; they came in a three-pack so I always have one in the washer and two ready to go.

I LOVE my Clorox Ready Mop. Same idea as the Swiffer WetJet but it's much easier to use washable cloths with, they just tuck into little grooves on the top. Plus it's much simpler to refill the bottles, it's a screw on cap. They can be harder to find these days but I saw them at Walmart recently.

In addition to making your own solution, you can get microfiber towels at the Christmas Tree Shops for $1 and cut it into 6 pieces, each of which is pretty exactly the size of the Swiffer head. You don't need to sew or use velcro, they just stick to the existing velcro...nothing crafty to it.

Although be ware, the red microfiber will bleed the first time you wash it.

This is what I bought - I got mine at QFC if you have those. I use old thin wash cloths or other rags and just refill with water/vinegar.

However I do have to say I don't find it to be super sturdy. I can already tell this won't last very long (I've only had it for about 4 months but I have all wood/tile floors) so I think when it finally gives I'll go ahead and get something truly nice and durable. It will be more frugal in the long run.

If you only have small areas though, it really is more convenient to use than dragging out a regular mop and bucket.

How much vinegear and water should you fill the bottle with? I would love to try this when my current bottle runs out!

Well the cheap person in me, has decided not to get the Swiffer. I think I will stick with my old routine. I do need to do a scrub the floor with a scrub brush on my hands and knees wash soon. Unfortunately, thats the only way to get a super duper cleaning done.

I don't know about the wet jet, but I 'mop' with my swiffer and crocheted cozys and find that the edges of rooms, corners, etc. just don't get done well and every so often I have to scrub by hand too. Any routine I've ever had I've had to do that every now and again.

Yay for us cheap mammas! LOL

hahaha...me either. but, ya'll have reminded me of how easy the swiffer is. soi think imight go did ours out of the basement and use it with some vinegar. it is a left over from dh's college days. he was so proud of himself that he "mopped." and now dd loves to push it around the basement.

i'm all for the blender too. or a food processer or a jucier...
