I have (I think it's still somewhere) one of the regular swiffer sweepers. I wanted the mop for ease of use but wasn't crazy about the waste or the chemicals. I got one of those mops with a microfibre pads you attach to the top. It was fairly inexpensive, I think I got it at WalMart a few years back, and the microfibre really does a good job of cleaning off spots and stuff.

i'm all for the blender too. or a food processer or a jucier...
I have a blender but I hate it. I want a Kitchen Aid.

I ditched our swiffer because I thought the chemicals were creepy. Now I wish I still had it for mopping the bathrooms. That was the only thing it was really, really good for.

I don't like Swiffers because you're just pushing the same dirt around the whole room, not rinsing it like you do with a mop.

Thanks for posting that "bottle modification" tutorial! I have a Swiffer Wetjet that has been sitting in my closet for a year unused because I couldn't stand that nasty, stinky, chemical floral scent that they insist on using. Toxic city! Gag.

I was easily able to open the lid with the boiling water method and remove the parts that keep the lid on with nail clippers. It works perfectly now with my own homemade cleaning solution. Yea!

I use a dust mop - the type that's cheap and comes with a microfiber pad that you can wash. I just run it under the tap a few times while I'm mopping. Cheap and easy. Our floors look great.

Those of you recommending vinegar need to be cautious - if you have linoleum or wood, it will take the shine out of it real quick.

I do the same thing, and it works perfectly!

I like my Wet Jet. But.... it isn't frugal, and it isn't environmentally friendly. I always feel like I am mopping my floors with a disposable diaper.

But that being said, I do find it really handy for small frequent jobs, like paw prints by our back door a million times a day. It is a lot easier than hauling out a mop and bucket to just clean a small area.

When I do all of my floors I still use a regular old mop. It does a better job too.
