So, I've Stripped Them, and They Still Leak...!

After CD's started leaking, I figured that maybe I shouldn't be using diaper rash creams (Only "CD-Safe ones" - Grandma El's, California Baby, and Angel Baby Bottom Balm) as preventatives...

So, I put away all of the creams and decided to strip everything.

Here's what I did with everything (all my CD laundry):

Cold wash with nothing, cold rinse.

1.) Hot wash with Dawn, cold rinse.

2.) 3 more hot washes, with cold rinses with nothing.

3.) Then another cold wash and cold rinse with nothing.

Turned my pockets inside out.

I then repeated the above three steps.

That was a total of 11 wash cycles!!! (Talk about wasting water!)

I figured that would have done the job, but no...

They're still leaking! :

When we pour water onto a pocket, it doesn't even go through to the insert! Some of the diapers work okay, but most are still leaking at least a little, some really bad!

I'm getting really sick and tired of waking up to a wet bed!

Is there anything else I can do?!

TIA!

You need to take some Dawn and an old tooth brush and really scrub the liner inside the pocket. They're probably coated with the diaper cream.

Oh man. I'll try that. I hope it works! I never thought using the safe creams would cause this... I guess I learned!

Thanks!

Usually the safe creams don't cause this...what kind of detergent are you using?

My friend had good luck with hers stripping them in the dishwasher! You could try it.

Boiling them is a risk, but lots of people have boiled their pockets without trouble. I would just not boil for too long and try not to let the snaps rest against the pan...

We're using Purex Free and Clear... I think that's an okay one (although it does contain brighteners)

I wonder if this would work...

Even if the diaper rash cream says they are safe of cloth diapers, i would highly recommend using flushabel liners. They are safe on cloth diapers as in they won't ruin the diapers. ... doesn't mean you don't need to use liners. Diaper rash cream, even the natural ones, are designed to block moisture.

Hope the scrubbing works! Let us know!

I've boiled mine in the past with success.

I've been lazy lately and still haven't "scrub stripped" the pockets... I've just been using prefolds during the day and 'sposies at night... I'll be doing it soon though...

Hooray!

I finally got around to to scrubbing each pocket inside and out followed by three hot washes with nothing with cold rinses, and guess what...

DD wore pockets all day yesterday - with not leaks!

Thank you everyone!!!
