washing them when it's real poop

DD has started on solids and she has real poop now . It's the consistency of paste and I have no idea what to do now. Do I keep throwing the poopy diapers in the wash until the poop can plop off into the toilet or do I need to scrape/spray the poop off before washing?

I found these flushable liners really helpful. It's not 100% - some still can get on the sides of the diaper - but ALOT easier to get most of the poop into the toilet.

What I always do with a soft poop like that is to take a big handful of toilet paper or a dry cloth wipe, and push whatever will come off easily into the toilet. Then I just pail it dry just like you'd do with breastmilk poo. It always washes out just fine. I've never rinsed or scraped or gone to any special trouble with poop with any of my kids, and never had any problems. Hint-- do a cold rinse or prewash before your wash cycle, to make sure the worst of it is rinsed away before you introduce hot water. That'll help prevent stains.

I think you are fine just throwing them in the wash. I generally wash them through 2 times when they get to that stage, so it takes a bit more but they do come clean.

I usually turn my diaper inside out and swish the poopy part - my fingers stay dry holding the very top and bottom of the diaper. We sometimes use fleece or flushable liners, both help a lot, I'm just not consistent with it. I use to be more picky to try to get most of the poo off, but now I just get the big chunks off and then wash and it's ok. We get some staining, but not bad.

Personally, I would try to get as much of the poo in the toilet as you can. I just don't like putting poo in my washer.

I shake and then throw the poopy ones and wipes in the washer for a pre-rinse. Seems to work pretty well. I also add a little Bac-Out to the rinse to kill germs.

We started using a diaper sprayer when my daughter's poo started getting like that. It's definitely been a good $40 spent and it was super easy to install!

We try to get as much off as possible before washing--I am in the I don't like a ton of poop in my washer club. But I also don't like swishing.

Add a strip of Fleece to line your diapers--and it will revolutionize your life. Unless it's diarrhea it will pretty much roll right off.

If it is diarrhea I either close my eyes and put it in the washer or use the spatula that we have downgraded from the kitchen to scrape it off. Wouldn't you hate to be that spatula?

This is exactly what I do. I find a cold wash before I put in soap gets rid of almost everything.

I like the sprayer a lot! I use it for those clay like poops with my daughter. With our first I did the wad of toilet paper push mode and then later started using a flushable diaper liner (these are great for grandparents/childcare providers/my dh). If you go for the tp and push mode, I suggest a long soak in the washer!

Good luck!

I've always used a sprayer or 'plopped' them off when they get to that point. I can't imagine trying to cloth diaper without a sprayer - yuck! I've had to dunk before when I was at my mom's house and it was pretty gross but it did work some. I definitely do not like the idea of putting a bunch of poop in my washer. I think you should either get a sprayer or get used to dunking them.
