Chicken Pox in Southern NH

Hi Everyone! I think we may have a case of chicken pox here in Kingston, NH. I will have a better idea in the morning, but our daughter (19 mos) has one big spot on her belly and several small pimples on her torso. We exposed her to CP on April 11th, so that would put us well in the exposure to onset timeframe.

I figured I would give a heads up to people who want it, so that they can plan when they want to come over. If you are interested in coming over, PM me your info (telephone #, name and kids you would bring) I will check back on here tomorrow morning around 9am and will call people who are interested in coming over after that. (I will let you know too if it ends up not being CP) We will be available tomorrow (Sunday April 26th) from 10am -Noon and again from 2pm-6pm. We will also see about hours on Monday, but they would probably be the same.

Also, we are fine with kids who have colds or are getting over colds or just have snotty noses. Our kid has had a snotty nose every other week since she started daycare last July and really, I think it is just a matter of time before she gets the next one. So, no worries, if you want to come, don't worry about *possibly* passing on a cold to us. Most likely you might end up walking away with CP and maybe something else Its just the way kids are.

Congrats! Glad to hear that the strain is still going strong. Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Hi All, So here we are with the morning update. Last night DD's spots were very obvious and she also seemed to have a bit of a rash on her arms. Here is the link to a picture of the spots in the bath. This morning the pimples are back to a light color and the big one on her stomach is still there, but not quite as red. Yesterday her arms were covered in a red rash, today she just has one pimple on her left arm and the red rash is gone. So, I'm not sure if she had a heat rash yesterday from the hot weather or if the hot weather made the pimples she has more noticable or if she has chicken pox and it is just a mild case? She is happy enough but developed a runny/snotty nose yesterday morning which has gotten progressively worse. I guess we will just have to wait a little longer to know for sure. If your willing to gamble "yes, she has it" you are welcome to PM me to come by for a visit.

If it makes you feel any better about the spots, Victoria started the same way. She had one large one (which still has a scab on it now) on her belly and two small pink dots on her chest. I found one pink spot on her leg where she has eczema but it took two more days for her to really develop. I saw you in the pink dot stage (except that one on her belly LOL) I called it the sneezy pink dot stage, since her nose ran and she had a dot LOL. I would say that it's best contagious at that point too.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you. As soon as I sent the message, i realized we couldn't go down on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.

I'm still holding out hope he'll get them today or tomorrow. I'm at day 14 now, so hope's getting slim!

Jen that would be great if you could get another exposure if he doesn't get them. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Good luck!

Bummer, looks like DD managed to avoid getting CP again! It was looking like she had a few spots, but they never progressed and never blistered. I guess we are now looking for exposure #3...

For people out there who did repeated exposures, how many times did it take?

Keep an eye on those spots natasha...we had 2 days of unprogressive spots...no blisters or anything, just red spots. Maybe your luck will change.

chicken pox

Hi there!
Congratulations! I live in Exeter and my son is just about 28 months old. We chose not to vaccinate and definitely planned on having him catch the CP at some point. I guess it didn't occur to me that the opportunity would come up so quickly! What I haven't researched yet is when is a good time to catch them. Is there an age that's more optimal for lifetime protection or a time when it's "safer?" I'm thinking you have all figured this out already and I am way behind!

Also, he is still nursing- not sure if this would affect his chances of catching it.

Thanks for your guidance!

Our DD is 20mths and it seems to be a good age. I think breast feeding helps pass on your immunity, but thats not to say he won't catch it. PM me if you would like to come over. We are probably still contagious through tomorrow.

Congrats! Glad to know that it finally worked. Just remember, day 3 is usually the worst, then on day 4 they seem to be on the mend (at least that seems to be the general consensus). Good luck!

I think its all over, but for a couple more that need to scab! YEAH! It was not that bad, DD slept through the night throughout. Was a little grouchy at times, but usually she was her happy-go-lucky self. She tried to itch a few times, but with distractions, had soon forgotten she was itchy. (Did you find you child to be most itchy during the pimple, blister or scab stage?)

All together, not so bad

So glad it's almost over! I found Victoria to be most itchy during the blister to scab stage. I caught her scratching occasionally when the scabs were about to come off so I would recommend longsleeve shirts as long as you can to cover easily accessible areas. We also put on some triple antibiotic ointment on some of the ones that really bothered her. Once the scabs starting coming off, the aveeno burned but the ointment seemed to sooth (and hopefully prevent scarring on some that came off early).

How did you get it over with so fast!!!! christopher has a few new ones today, and he's on day 9 now.

Don't know how we got over it so fast, maybe it was the echinechia and elderberry drops I was giving her throughout. Maybe she just had a mild case, don't really know?! At this point all the scabs are gone, but you can see where they were. Hopefully that doesn't mean there will be scarring, just that she needs new skin to grow in! Maybe the difference in color is because she was tan before and the new skin where the spots were is not tan yet? Only time will tell!

Subbing!

I missed this thread until now...
hoping someone closer to Southern Vermont may have gotten them?

I'm also sad I missed this boat - I just signed onto mothering.com - If you hear of anyone who has it, I'd love to know so my son can get the chicken pox. (My preferred email, the one I read most often is jenh4300@yahoo.com.)

Here's a big thread we've had going for a while about sharing pox in VT/NH/ME:

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...&highlight=pox

Could we all stick with that one thread, so everybody gets the message when there's activity? That would rock
