YAY! Trader Joes

Just wanted to share a happy story for everyone. I was stuck in traffic with my LO in the car and she was not a happy camper so I decided to pull of and get some of my grocery shopping done. I was nursing my LO in the back seat of my car before we went in (since she had been crying for a good 10 minutes while I was stuck in traffic) as she was nursing this woman walked by and looked at me as if I was completely crazy. About 5 minutes later the same woman come out of Trader Joes and tapped on my car window, when I opened the door she informed me that she had just told the manager at Trader Joes that I was "flashing" everyone as they were coming into the store and that she wanted me to be asked to leave. She then walked off. I was completely shocked! I NIP all the time with out comment, and never thought someone would be bothered by my nursing in the back seat of my car.

So a few minutes later the manager from Trader Joes comes out and I'm thinking I'm going to have to prepare for battle. But I was pleasantly surprised that he was just coming out to apologize for the grumpy lady and to tell me I could nurse in the store if I would be more comfortable. Needless to say I was very happy and will be shopping with Trader Joes a whole lot more now :

I shop at TJs and every time I am nursing babe in sling all the employees smile at me. They really are great there, extra nice to kids, super helpful, just wonderful all around.

The TJ in Hanover, MA donated balloons to the pro-mom nurse out for a breastfeeding awareness event we had a few years back (maybe 06?).
Always liked TJ's.... thanks for sharing the story, sorry about the grumpy lady.

Thats awesome! I nursed my son in TJ's about a month ago, and one of the cashiers was saying that my son looked so big and healthy and wasn't mama's milk just the best thing for babies? :

It of course helped that my son is the cutest baby ever and was smiling at her as we left a few minutes later!

I wish we had a Trader Joe's in Iowa. That sounds like a great store!

As an older woman, this story makes me sad. It's women like her who give older women such a bad reputation. If it had been me passing by your car, I would have smiled broadly and given you a thumbs-up!

do you have contact info for the manager? I think behaviour like this should be recognized.
Way to go trader Joes!!!!

What is with people? I would ask grumpy old lady, why she felt it was necessary to peep into my car? She's a peeping Tom and the police should have came and scared the heck out of her

No that's GREAT! We lactivists leap to protest when breastfeeding is not treated right; we must leap to acknowledge positive treatment too!
