umbilical hernia?

i think riley might have an umbilical hernia...it's either that or a really big outie. when she cries, her belly button sticks out more...and even when she's not, it sorta sticks out. the inside part is lined up wth the ridge and there is even the absence of a ridge on one part (does that make sense?)

anyway, anybody else deal w/this?

It sure sounds like one...all of my kids have had one to some degree, but only mildly. Do you have a friendly doc you are seeing? He or she can take a look at it and just kind of know that your LO has one so you can monitor it together. It may just resolve itself as your baby grows (that's what happened with my kids), or I understand that there's a minor surgical procedure that can be done if there's a problem, or if it hasn't gone away by itself by the time they're a little older.

My lo has an umbilical hernia. I thought I spotted one and asked about it the ped's office the other day, and sure enough she does have one. The ped said they usually fix themselves, nothing to really worry about. You should have your doc monitor it, though.

Well, it sounds like a much more minor hernia than little Luke's. His looks like part of an elephant trunk, lol. The m/w said that although his is particularly big, it's more than likely that it'll go back in with time. If it doesn't look like it's shrinking after a few more weeks, they'll refer me to a ped to check it out. At the very worst, it's a minor operation, but that is very, very unlikely they told me.
