DS's diaper is so gross in the morning, seriously makes me want to gag. Why does it smell so bad? It is mostly just a REALLY strong pee smell but I don't remember this happening before... is it just because he is a bit older and peeing more and in a diaper longer? Do I need to change something with our wash routine? We currently use 1 MF and one hemp insert in a pocket at night. I haven't noticed his other diapers smelling, but our pail does smell really bad... any thoughts?

We have a 19 month old and I know exactly what you mean. For us it's straight up burn your nose ammonia. It's been going on since he was like a year old and it doesn't stay after washing.

We started adding a deo disk at the bottom of our diaper pail and that has really helped on that front. You can make your own with baking soda and a muffin tin. Just mix baking soda, a few drops of tea tree oil or other anti-bacterial essential oil, and water till it get's to a frosting like consistency. Pour it into your muffin tins, wait a few days for it to dry out, and voula! You have deo disks.

I'm glad it isn't just me!! DS just turned 1 so maybe its just that... I ordered a few citrus circles to try in the pail to see if that helps. My diapers smell just fine after washing so I have no idea what else could be causing it...

Definitely NOT alone--my hubby would rather change poopy diapers than his morning diaper. That's how much HE hates the smell.

try neutralizing the PH buildup with a vinegar soak.

I'm glad its not just me that has this problem!! I have avoided vinegar because I heard it was bad to use with hard water?
