and I don't want it. Even though I have already unselected all of my subscribed threads, I'm getting tons of emails. How can I not be instantly notified of new posts?

Thanks!

Go to User CP and then Options, in there you can find the option to turn off email notifications.

Ok, I did that and I'm still getting emails.

It mat may take 24 hours for the system to figure out that you've changed it. (iirc. I think that's how often it updates the email settings)

Also, you said you unchecked all of your subscribed threads. Did you do it again after you changed your settings? There may be some left over.

At your user cp where it has your subscribed threads, scroll down to the 'View All Subscribed Threads' link and see if there are any left.

This happened to me on 4-23, private message notifications, I'm not a huge PM'er so i didn't know what was going on or why it was happening, only one message that it happened with and it came through my inbox (regular email, saying there was a new PM for me here at Mothering) 4 times I think. I did not get any other PM's that day. Did have one on the 24th and the notification came through only 1 time.

don't know how this might relate to anything but those who understand computers might be able to figure out things better if they have more info...

When I typically get a PM I get a notification in my regular email saying that I got one at mothering. When I open mothering up (have it bookmarked to the forum homepage in my favorites) if I have a PM i get a window and it says something about alert you have a new PM would you like to open/see/read it now and the option of yes and cancel, if I choose cancel i can go on with looking around mothering, if I choose yes then I always get a bling on my speaker and up top under my tab area of windows I get something about my computer settings saying that I don't allow pop ups or something or other (I guess that has to do with my security type settings) The only way that I can look at the PM (without changing things in my computer settings) is to click on private messages and go from there, I can never read them from that pop up window thingy by choosing yes.

When I got the alert that I had a PM I did not go read it immediately, I was rushed on time and just went where I was originally going on Mothering and ignored the PM until later, my thought was that because I ignored that alert that the system resent me the notification to my email inbox. Wasn't a big deal to me because like I said it only got the notification 4 times and I don't get very many PM's. I also have Mothering settings set up so that I can see what threads I'm subscribed to while at Mothering but I do not get alerts sent to email that someone has posted new on those threads.

Have you done this? The only way you'd be getting emails is if they are in this list.

I have subscribed threads, but on the right it has a box at the top where you can check or uncheck them all for notification. Mine are all unchecked, and in my edit options, I have it set to no email.

After you have gone and deleted all of those, try resetting your notification options again.
  1. Click USERCP
  2. Click Edit Options on the left
  3. Scroll to Default Thread Subscription Mode
  4. When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.
  5. Choose either 'no email notification' (places it into your USERCP list) in the drop down box or 'Do not subscribe'
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  7. Click Save Changes

Even when you click 'View All Subscribed Threads' (very bottom right of that box)? Try this: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...n&folderid=all

ETA: When you just click your UserCP without clicking the link at the bottom of the subscribed threads box, it only shows you the most recent threads you've subscribed to. I just discovered some ages old subscriptions still living in mine. :

The only way the system even knows to send an email for a thread is if you are subscribed in some way. Hmm.

I am subscribed to threads, since I post replys. I've done all this and am still getting notification. I'm gonna try logging out and logging back in.

ok, I think I fixed it now. I selected all the threads, went to the bottom of the subscribed threads page, selected no email notification there, and clicked save. Now they say "none" instead of instant.

Gotcha. The problem is though, that you can't tell just by looking at the threads in the list which ones are being told to send you emails and which ones aren't. The only way to stop the emails on the ones that are set that way is to completely unsubscribe to them now that you have changed your options, and resubscribe to the threads individually. Essentially start from scratch.

Aha! We crossposted. Thats great!

I have mine set as none so I can follow via my CP, too.
