First time mom-need help choosing!

I just found out I'm pregnant with my first, and I really want to be a hardcore babywearer! I need help deciding which gear I need though. I live in the Midwest, so winters are very cold, summers are very hot. The baby will be born around Christmas, very cold. So the one I use for newborn will have to be warm, but for around 6 months will have to be cooler. I'd prefer organic materials, and my partner wants to be able to wear the baby too, would one of these be fine, or would he be better off with one like an Ergo?

Here is what I've accumulated over the years:
*Ultimate Baby Wrap-long cloth wrap, but it's fairly stretchy, don't know how well it will work for a newborn, I've only used it for a 6 month old and it worked ok, but it was really hot and was a bit of a pain in the arse. This little peanut will be 6 months old in the summer too, so this probably won't work super well. I also only used the front hold (facing inside and outside) which won't work for a newborn right? They like to be laying down? And it seemed to be balancing the baby on her crotch which seemed uncomfortable to me.

*Amy Coe Pouch Sling -I have only used this for an older baby around 10 months, and only used the hip hold, so don't know how this would work for a newborn laying down. It's made out of a pretty cotton, but it's not stretchy material, seems to me the pouches I've seen are more stretchy looking to keep their little feet in.

*Evenflo Snugli Front and Backpack Carrier -I only bought this because I needed to keep a little one on my back. Don't really care for it though.

Pretty pathetic, huh?

I've been doing lots of research and looking at past posts, and I think I want:
*A ring sling because it just seems easiest to use for a tiny newborn. This would probably be the one I use as a newborn? I have no clue the best ring sling though!
*A mei tei (thinking of a babyhawk maybe?) because I love how it looks and seems better than the Snugli, and doesn't seem to put all the pressure on the babies' crotch (this is the one that ties in a bow on babies back when inside facing right?)
*I'm really liking the Beco Butterfly 2
*Maybe another, better wrap? Maybe this should be the cooler one so I can use it in the summer? Maybe a K'tan? Moby? Cuddlywrap?
*The Kozy Carrier-simply because it got such high reviews here
*Maybe an Adjustable Solarveil® Pouch-a pouch that's better than my Amy Coe, but also one I can use in the water come next summer when baby is 6 months?

Which one or ones of these should I get? What would you get if you were me?
Thanks!

Wow, you've been doing some thinking about all this!

Okay, some newborns like being carried lying down, some prefer being carried upright. You won't know which you've got till you've got it! Good luck...

You should be able to use your wrap (UBW) either lying down or carried upright with a newborn. Does the website/video/instruction manual give directions for different carries? Your partner will absolutely be able to use this one too.

Ring slings are great for newborns. I'm a huge fan of unpadded ring slings. Padding just seems to get in the way, for the most part. There are different shoulder styles, you need to pick one you like. Gathered or pleated shoulders cup the shoulder nicely. Rolled ones...it idepends.

Pouch slings are fine for newborns as long as it fits you correctly. Whether or not your partner can use this depends on whether you are the same size/build.

A Kozy carrier IS a mei tai. So you don't need it and the babyhawk, unless of course you want two different ones. (Always. Always a good excuse to get another carrier... )

If you like using a wrap you will eventually want a woven one, because with a heavier baby a stretchy wrap...well, it stretches. And that gets uncomfy.

Soft structured carriers (SSC) are pretty handy, they're basically mei tais but with backpack straps instead of tying. There are a bunch of different types, many very beautiful. The Beco is one type of SSC. I've heard mixed reviews. Probably you should find one you can try on and see if it works for you and your partner. Some people love them, some not so much. But that's the case with all carriers...

Can you find a babywearing group in your area? That's your best bet. You can try on different kinds, people can help you tweak the ones you have so they work the best possible...

Honestly, with my newborn I've used the stretchy wrap and the ring sling. I've only used the mei tai for back carries so far. So if you pick up (or make yourself) a simple, cheap (or deluxe, expensive...whatever's to your taste) ring sling, you should be covered for the first couple of months and that'll give you some time to look around.

For a new born, I really enjoy using a wrap (short or long) and a ring sling. Babies can go either upright (with feet in), cradle or semi cradle and your baby will mostly likely let you know which of these positions he prefers (at least mine have!). You can use a buckle carrier or mei tai from birth on, but usually new moms seem to want either a ring sling or a wrap. And for me too, these have been my go-to carriers for my own newborns. Some brands to look for ring slings are Maya Wrap LP Ring Sling (which has light padding on the shoulder only and it's super comfy), Ellaroo or Sakura Bloom. For mei tais some brands to get you started are Freehand, Babyhawk and my favorite, which is Kozy. Soft structured carriers that work really well with newborns are Beco and Pikkolo. Have fun choosing!
