I really wish employers didn't have the right to make those kinds of demands on employees. Medical decisions should NOT be linked to work!

Hi Mamas, just got back from a trip with DS (without DH). My in-laws decided they wanted us to go to a family simcha (we wanted to go too, but couldn't afford it with me out of work). DH can't afford the time (it would be unpaid) so Ds and I went with my in-laws to California for the simcha. It was really nice.

DS and I were both on our best behavior. No screaming, yelling, tantrums (from either of us!) I did notice that as soon as I felt tired or hungry, I got crabby and had less patience with ds (I've been so busy lately that I didn't notice the obvious connection). DS, on the other hand, was super, even when he was over-tired. He's generally terrible at going to bed, but for several nights in a row (we were up late) he'd come to me and say "Eema, I'm ready to go back to our hosts and go to bed." - I was super impressed and he was a pleasant travel companion.

I also wonder if being away from my DH also helped reduce the stress...we've had some tense few weeks since I lost my job, and there were just so many fights, I was hating it.

glad you had some good "away time"...
sometimes a being away from each other for a short time and missing each other is really good for the relationship....
sounds like it was a really positive trip

any good egg free recipes? Rashi is fresh from Aiva's dr. - and she told us that eggs are way bad for him. In particular, I need dessert ideas (also have to be chocolatecoffee, and caffeine free). As an added bonus, onions are now a no go - along with some others. Hopefully this will get rid of the hives.

we made a delicious desert this past shabbos...:
a homemade pudding with cornstarch(you can use arrowroot if you can't do cornstarch) almond and coconut milk and bananas....even dh loooved it and so did the guests. I can get you the recipe if you want. you can use instant pudding if no one is allergic to the ingredients.

Yummy dessert for hot weather: Berry Sorbet
Take a frozen apple juice concentrate, a frozen banana, and a package of frozen berries (strawberries, or raspberries, but the raspberries have seeds you might not like -- in which case process separately and run through sieve)
Stick in food processor and mash. Freeze. The consistency is perfect because it is made with frozen items -- the banana makes it creamy.
Depending on the berries, it might be too sweet, in which case you can add some lemon juice.
If no allergies to these things, it's a simple dessert to make.

Did she mention if just egg whites, or the whole egg?

Such a major bummer - no coconut - I use that all the time too. The list keeps getting worse.
Sounds good though - is there something I could do to sub for the coconut milk?

Just shoot me now. Dh is allergic to fruit. Like almost every single one out there. He can't have apples - I don't think he can do berries either.

Actually the egg yolks were worse than the whites. She said no eggs at all.

What do you guys have left to eat??? (that's not meant to be snarky but wow! difficult)
tell me about it. I'm trying to deal. Fortunately everyone can still have corn and soy - although when i get tested I wouldn't be shocked if I can't have corn (although I don't know if I would change - yipes!).

Often I already make meals separately - like if I'm serving pasta I make gluten free and regular. I just cant' take away from everyone.
what's killing me is that all of the healthier food that we buy has sunflower oil in it - so that's out for Rashi.

How about a package of sugar cubes for Shabbos dessert. Anybody allergic to sugar?

I'm feeling rather bummed out right now. My foot has been hurting me if I stand on it for more than about a minute, so my activities have been extremely limited. I didn't go to shul on Shabbos. I'm getting especially cranky for two reasons:

1) There are chores to be done- little things that I'd normally do myself but can't right now (handwashing my mug, putting away something left on the kitchen table, etc) that I simply can't do right now. And they're bugging me, because they're not being done when I want them done, and it's a visual reminder that I'm hurt, and I end up snapping at the kids for not cleaning up when a gentle request would be a lot more appropriate.

2) I'm cranky and PMSy and edgy and I need a walk to clear my head and find my center. Obviously that can't happen right now.

Sorry, but I have been very busy lately and haven't looked at MotheringDotCommune for a while.

For egg free baking, try to get from the library a copy of Uprisings: The Whole Grain Bakers' Book. It has a lot of egg free recipes.
