First time mom-trying to figure out CDing!

Hi! I just found out I'm due with my first at Christmas time. I'm very set on wanting to cloth diaper, but there is so much info, my head is spinning! Can you help me figure out what's best for me?

I was thinking, I MIGHT like to use these hemp diapers with maybe some organic cotton/wool covers.

Is hemp a good material to use? Is it soft? Would maybe bamboo be better? Cotton? For the covers I was thinking organic cotton covers, but also was thinking about wool, is it a good material to use?

I was also thinking some cute covers, like maybe Starbunz , Bummis Super brite or Whisper, or just some cute little cover (any suggestions? the more cute the better!)

How does this plan sound? Would you recommend anything/something else? What's your favorite cloth diapers?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Cding! You'll love it.

My biggest recommendation is to try a little of everything--that way you aren't limited to one particular style or type.

For wool we have loved Stacinators for night time. We use PUL covers and unbleached cotton prefolds with a snappy during the daytime. I use my cheeky covers mostly but have also used thirsties--work great and bumgenius pockets (I hate their velcro but haven't tried the snaps).

We prefer bamboo to go next to the skin--it's just softer and I like the antibacterial properties it has.

Have fun building your stash!

If you can afford to do all fitteds that's great. I do find they are easier than prefolds, though a prefold and a snappi aren't too complicated either. I really like our wool imse vimse covers, they are fairly slim. And then I love handknit wool soakers and longies. If organic and natural materials are really important to you than you may not want to use cotton covers, just because even though it is organic cotton on the inside and outside, there is still a layer of pul sandwiched in between and that is synthetic. If that doesn't bother you though, I believe imse vimse makes some organic cotton covers, both in white and in prints. If you are looking for something really cute I would check out hyena cart for wham made covers and/or fitteds. Also have you considered pocket diapers. Aside from being made with synthetic materials (pul) I love them, I think they are my favorite. I love that they are slimmer in my experience than a separate diaper and cover, plus you can stuff them all at one time and than when you are actually diapering there is one less step than putting on a fitted and then a cover. When dd is with a sitter I always leave them with pocket diapers because they are easier for non-cloth diapering folks to figure out. I have been really happy with fuzzi bunz, but I have been told that swaddle bees are even slimmer and fit under standard baby clothes better. If you don't mind using pul, but only want organic materials against baby's skin, than swaddlebees makes a pocket diaper with an organic cotton inner with a pul outer. Both the swaddlebees and fuzzi bunz come in a variety of great colors too. I plan on doing a mix of pockets and fitteds with wool for this baby that's due in August.

P.S. you should really check out hyena cart if you want fitted diapers, covers, or woolies that are extra cute or more custom than what you find at the regular diaper shops on the web. Also check out diaperswappers for deals on used diapers, I think it's also a neat place to learn more about all the different diapers out there.
