I want to go into labor - Page 2

I lost my plug, (or maybe just part of it...it wasn't much) immediately before labor started. I was laying in bed, and got up to go to the bathroom. I noticed the plug and then contractions started right up. I was holding my baby like, 6 hours later!

DH just informed me that he'd like me to have the baby at least several days after my due date. Poor thing...he just started a new job and has deadlines...but...holy cow...two more weeks of this? I guess it's not really up to me anyway. But hey...it gives me an excuse to lounge around on my butt more ("I didn't mop the floors because I don't want to go into labor early!"). ;-)

Good thing DH doesn't get to decide! Can I just give you a little "hope" here and say my water broke with 3 out of 4 when I was laying down doing not a darn thing?

I've had two kids (this is my third birth) and never seen a mucous plug yet. Take heart!

What I did:

Day of labor:
1.Went to work
2.Used the stairs all day
3.Drank a BIG soda
4.Had a lot of water
5.Came home early
6.Sat of the birthing ball for a bit
7.Took an EPO
8.Had an orgasm

...an hour later I had my first real contraction...and the rest is history.

I am almost to the point where the pain of labor sounds more appealing than being pg. I told dh if I could so turn into one of those women begging their drs for an induction - and an epidural before hand lol. I'm not a happy pg lady.

You know whenever I have gone into labor naturally (no messing with tinctures, castor oil or arom or membrane sweeps) I never had bloody show. I did have mucous but never bloody show. Not even in labor. I had some pink fluid before but no actual blood. So take heart, you might not either. Although sometimes I wonder if a little warning would be nice lol.

I'm also a VBAC hopeful thinking the same thing - if I wait 42 weeks and still have to have a RCS, I'm going to be like "Why didn't I just get it at 39 weeks!"

But I know if I do schedule it, I will always wonder what if. So, here's to sticking it out. I'm 38w 2 d today. No impending signs of labor whatsever. Completely closed cervix as of Friday. Hopefully I'm an exception where I just start having contractions one of these days

I also wanted to say that there are a lot of people who don't ever notice or don't lose their mucous plug until actual labor.

Well, I saw the midwife this morning, and she couldn't find the baby's head by feeling. She grabbed the ultrasound machine, to make sure it hadn't flipped breech (I'm not comfortable doing a breech VBAC), and still couldn't find it, so she called the OB in to have a look. Apparently baby still has a head but it's way down low in my pelvis, nearly fully engaged. I'm taking this as a sign that baby could be coming soon, even though I know that's no guarantee whatsoever.

That's great peppermint!

I just got back from the chiro and am leaving soon for a haircut/highlights . Chiro did some "stirring". He said if, before my next appt, I have a day of labor that doesn't go anywhere, I can come in sooner. I guess he can help.

What did he do to "stir" things up?

Me - I have been contracting on and off ALL day so far. Nothing consistent, but they hurt, my lower back hurts, I feel VERY spacey too, and very "off" if you know what I mean. Trying to not get my hopes up, but they are getting hard to ignore when I have one.

This is how I've been feeling, I haven't really been able to explain the spacey feeling. The ctxs I've had are very inconsistent, but I've noticed them for about 3 days now. I keep telling myself that this could go on for weeks, even though I'm excited.

I keep telling myself the same thing....this could go on for a while, but its hard to not get excited thinking just maybe........

I have the midwife tomorrow, so we'll see if I've had any progress with all of these cramps and contractions. I know it won't be a definitive answer, but at least it will give me something to ponder, lol.

I think all it was, was a left side-lying adjustment. He also did webster. My pelvis is SOO sore today after that! I actually called him back about it and skipped the grocery store b/c of discomfort. I've had pubic pain a lot from symphysis pubis dysfunction and it feels worse now. I feel more pulling in my pelvic ligaments, and he said that would be expected and could ice it if I want. I feel it when I walk especially so I feel icky today. I took a nap and part of me wonders if something will start but I have no way of knowing. I guess he loosened things up and maybe the baby dropped more. No ctx though or change in what's on the TP.

Has that happened to anyone else? I saw someone mention something about their chiro being able to move things along, and I was going to ask mine in light of that, and before I could ask he said he had something else he could do to today based on how far along I am (38w2d).

No idea, but I'll ask mine Friday if she can do anything. So far she just said opening the pelvis up with proper positioning should help. Sounds like maybe your pelvis opened more and babe is getting lower in to it? Not sure if it's chiro related or not, but can totally see how it would work like that.

Yeah, I'm thinking things must be being stretched open more. I looked in the mirror and couldn't visibly tell if baby is lower, but I can try to get a feel from m/w tomorrow how engaged the head is. Has been engaged for a few weeks now, but to what degree, I am not sure.

I've never been sore after Webster. It makes sense to me that your soreness is due to advancing engagement. :

My chiro said she adjusted someone one afternoon, and she had her baby by the next morning. But, I think like any other "natural labor inducer", your body and baby have to be ready to go anyway.

Today I:
* had 2 O's
* drank coffee and a smoothie, on the same principal as castor oil or an enema
* ate pineapple [does anyone know if this needs to be fresh? I had canned...]
* went for a walk
* had eggplant parm with extra oregano and basil
* had more oregano & basil with dinner
* listened to my birthing day Hypno-babies scripts

I'm thinking of trying some nipple stim, accupressure points, and maybe another O [this time with DH?] later. If my body/baby are ready, yay. If not, I don't figure it will hurt....

Can you explain the idea behind these two things?

My Chiro isn't Webster trained, none of the ones around here are. I'll have to ask her next week when I see her if she has any "tricks" though, lol.

The pineapple has to be fresh....apparently, whatever chemical is in it that we need goes bye-bye during the canning process.

My contractions totally went away and I ended up getting a HUGE burst of energy this afternoon and cleaned the entire house, including the bathroom.

Sure. Just beware the TMI!
Castor oil and enemas are theorized to work [from what I understand] by stimulating intestinal contractions, which in turn somehow stimulate the uterus [I don't get how, but I guess that's for others to know...]. Coffee, even decaf, and smoothies tend to make me need to have a bowel movement, so I thought, eh, why not.

As for the pineapple, I don't know, but I've heard it's a labor inducer... A list of labor inducers....

Darn about the fresh. I bought 4 more cans when I was at the store today. Oh well, I'll finish them up---can't hurt--and buy fresh next time I'm at the store.

Maybe the burst of energy is last-minute nesting before "real" labor begins?
Good luck!

ahhh ok, I knew that about castor oil but wasn't connecting smoothies and coffee! haha. Interesting about pineapple.
