Make your own Re-Usable snack/lunch baggies?

i really dislike plastic "ziplock" type baggies and always end up throwing them out after a few uses because they are just yucky...but i feel terrible, because i know i shouldnt...im also not a far of plastic containers, they just take up too much space.

this is for kid lunches, by the way..

so.... i want to make some, but im not sure what to use. i have a wet bag that is cloth fabric on the outside (with a cute design) but waterproof on the inside, i think its one piece of material. does anyone know what this material is called? and /or where i can find it? i figure i can make pouch style baggies for sandwiches and some draw string ones with toggles for other food stuff.

okay. thats all.:

Could it be PLU? I'd actually ask over in Diapering. They may know better.

It's PUL. I'd try some rip stop nylon, it's not completely waterproof, but pretty close, and easier to find locally.

I make (and sell) reusable sandwich wraps and snack bags. Mine are made out of PUL but then I line them with hemp jersey. That way my food is not sitting on the polyurethane but it is still there to help keep the food fresh. The wraps are 13 inch square with the pretty side of the pul on the outside and the jersey on the inside. Just sew them together right sides together except for a small area to turn it. Turn the fabric right side out, then topstitch around the edge to close the part where you turned it. I use velcro to seal the wrap shut. WHen you unwrap the sandwich you can use the wrap as a placemat to eat off of. That way you don't have to worry about a dirty table. My snack bags are made like the old fashioned sandwich bags before they had velcro. The top folds over to close the bag. They are also lined with hemp jersey. We use ours all the time. I also use a very large bag for bread and small ones for storing cheese and things of that nature.
