What is/was nesting like for you?

Did you get or have you had nesting instincts? I just realized tonight that DH and I put in a closet organizer, went through our clothes and did a donate/keep pile and I ironed a bunch of his dress shirts. Was I just cleaning or was that nesting? I wouldn't say it was a crazy urge to clean or organize - its just that we have plans next weekend and this weekend was a good time.
Just curious what nesting is like for other ladies. And how long was it between the nesting (how long did it last) and giving birth?

Um yea - I'd say I've been nesting! We call it "manic nesting" here. I just cannot get or keep the house clean enough, and when I should be resting - I am cleaning!

This is exactly me today! I haven't had it too bad until just today, and I totally went manic. I rearranged and cleaned my office, cleaned out my kitchen cupboards and fridge, and got the rest of the kitchen ready for our contractor who is coming tomorrow to put in a french door.

It was unlike any regular cleaning I've ever done. I was totally compulsive about it. In fact, I couldn't even focus on my hypnobabies script when I put dd down for her nap because I was so distracted by what I wanted to get done.

Then tonight I ran to Walgreens to pick up a few things and dh tried to call but I had left my phone in the car. I doddled around in there for a little bit and had a text msg and a voicemail from him stressing out because he couldn't get ahold of me. He walked in from having gone to the driving range today and saw me in the middle of the office rearrangement and was like (in a sing-song voice) "we're having a baaaaby". I sure hope she comes sometime soon! I kindof doubt it thought.

(DDC crashing)

With DD, my nesting urge was more about the satisfaction I got out of cleaning/organizing. I'm not one to normally get excited about scrubbing the bathtub, but while I was in my 3rd trimester, not only was I excited to do it, but it was so clean and pretty when I was done! I don't think I've ever been so happy about a clean tub before or since!

I went wild with the nesting about 2-3 weeks ago. Cleaned the kitchen and both bathrooms, itemized every single thing in my pantry and freezer, purged DD's room of outgrown clothing and got all the size 4T clothing into her dresser, vacuumed all the carpets, even made a drawer in my dresser for postpartum clothes.

Well, the last of my nesting urges ended last week, I'm exhausted, and now my house is officially a mess again. I kind of wish I would have waited until later to do all the cleaning, but I wanted to do it all *right then*. Now I just can't muster up the energy to get the house that clean again.

For me it's been a mix of things that I feel almost compelled to do. I've been cooking, making baby things, cleaning, organizing obsessively, and finishing household projects that have been stalled (in one case for years).

It's all stuff that I would normally do, but to an extreme degree. Like finishing a project a day or more when I'd normally get things done over the course of a week and feeling like it's the only thing I really want to do.

All I'm going to say is that you'd be surprised how much junk collects behind light switches.

If I've just inspired you, be smart with electricity, ladies. Plastic vacuum hoses are your friends.

My nesting for #1 was a steady rise to the end. I was cleaning crevices on the floor with toothpicks the day labor began. This time the heat slows me down a little, but I am taking lots of breaks and drinking a lot of fluids.

Thats hilarious!

Today I took the kids for a walk at 9am and then came home and plucked dandelions from the backyard. Every time I stood up I'd feel lightheaded, so I only did 1/2 of the backyard.
My goals for today are mop floor (on hands/knees so its real clean), vacuum, and clean bathroom. However, I'm thinking I might pace myself so its possible clean when baby comes.

oddly enough even tho he was a tad early, the few days before (ie last week ) I HAD to rewash all of his clothes. DH thought I was a maniac, but I just wasn't able to sleep until I got that last load in the dryer!

I had a full nesting day on Sunday. I cleaned 3 bathrooms, did a ton of laundry all day, did dishes, packed my hospital bag, and felt antsy all day if I wasn't doing something.

Last week I was a nesting fool. I normally can ignore clutter, it bugs me, but there are always more fun things to do. Not last week! i decluttered DS's room of all books, toys and clothes. I cleaned out my kitchen cabinets, pantry, fridge/freezer, cleaned out my closet and purged clothes, cleane my laundry room........

This week I hope to get the carpets shampoo'd and our master bathroom done.

Last night before I went to bed, I looked all over for some rags to polish the bedroom furniture first so I could cross it off my list. All the rags are in the dryer so I had to wait until today!! Torture!

I've been very psycho with my cleaning. At times it has been frustrating when I feel like doing something right this second, but for some reason I cant.

A couple of days ago I cleaned our bathroom like I've never cleaned it before. I used multiple cleaners, got on my hands and knees to scrub the floor, because mopping it wasnt good enough (it wasnt that dirty). It's not about cleaning anymore, it's about disinfecting and sanitizing. Everything must look perfect, sparkly and beautiful. I even got new towels and bath rugs, it looks so pretty. I said to DP like 48 times, "have you seen the bathroom yet? You should take a shower in it. Go look! Do you like it?". Boys, usually dont get excited over bathrooms, but he even mentioned to his mom how pretty it looked.

Laundry has become some exact chemical science.

I keep throwing things away and getting new things and right now Im going crazy with the idea of painting these threw floor lamps and a side table. I've never refurbished anything, but now I MUST do this, SOON! Im not the crafty kinda gal and I've never been crazy about decorating, but now it's a compulsive behavior.

Oh and cooking!

I spend my days reading food blogs. I never liked cooking, now I love it and DP said to me the other day "What's going on? Now you're a better cook than me".

Yes, yes, yes!!

I also feel more compelled to clean because I am starting to look at every day as the day that I may have to leave my 2yo, my house and my car in the care of our labor babysitters. : I see the kitchen and think, I HAVE to get the sink cleaned! In the bathroom every time I shower is an inspection. I have to make sure there are plenty of clean towels and sheets and clothes and diapers for the kiddo. Ack!!

I've become sort of a bathroom nazi, I go to inspect everytime anyone goes in it.

The funny thing is I've never been like this, a super neat/clean freak. Actually, Im the complete opposite, but I like it! I hope it stays with me.

And I have a crazy urge to paint these three floor lamps and a side table. Im not a crafty girl, but I've spent hours reading about the process, what can I use and believe me, Im gonna do it. I told DP that I was turning into a Martha Stewart kinda person, now that's scary haha

I apparently lack the nesting instinct. I also lack the cleaning instinct in any great amount. I have been shopping a lot. Does that count as nesting?
