Did I really just write May 4th??! Is that really in one week?! I soooo hope I don't see May 4th before this babe arrives!

Thanks for starting the new thread! I still can't comprehend that May is right around the corner. We've had so many births already this should have been April DDC #2

Time flies when you're having babies I guess!! I can't believe April is essentially done!

Did anyone else enjoy the super warm weather we got yesterday in New England! It was genuinely too hot for me, and made me thankful I will not be carrying a baby in July or August!
I gardened for about 20 minutes and spent the better part of the day directly in front of the fan in the living room.

Gardening!!!!!!! Oh, how I wish I could be doing that!!!!! Still working on the yard...not sure I'll have the sun exposure for anything productive. This year will be an experimental year for me!

You beat me by two minutes on my new chat thread...lol. I was like hey I wrote one too! We'll just let that one fade away...

I was miserable in Pittsburgh. Our A/C is expensive to run so we don't use it much...I was so uncomfortable. Today is the last warm day before we're back into spring weather.

I would probably refer to it as glorified yard work since I don't entirely have the energy to really do what I wanted. I had all these grand plans of a veggie/herb garden and really filling in the beds and window boxes. Now I am content with weeding the current beds and growing some herbs on the kitchen table in a sunny spot... I just can't see myself doing much gardening type stuff after DD has arrived.

I can't believe how many people have had babies. IN my last ddc, I think there was one or two women who had their babies before the month started.

My plans for gardening this year are to hopefully get everything planted before baby arrives, have zero time for weeding and upkeep once baby arrives, and then harvest whatever manages to stay alive in spite of the weeds!

Last summer, I was working FT nights, and the no-time-for-weeding thing went surprisingly well. I even had enough tomatoes to can some. I know it drives DH's grandpa nuts to see all those weeds, though (he lives next door and keeps a perfect garden despite being 87).

Yep, the weather was GORGEOUS here! I was so happy. I could go outside in short sleeves, perfect! No gardening, but I got lots of work done inside (with all the windows open).

I can't believe May is around the corner either. I have been making schedules at work, and FRIDAY is May 1st! Unbelievable! I don't know if it's the weather, or the knowledge that May is here, or what, but I've been in a great mood the past couple days. A nice change from the cranky, grouchy gal I've been in the weeks before that. I've begun really feeling like nesting, getting things ready... all good signs.

The weather has been awesome, but hot. I had to go buy a pair of shorts the other day. I was cranky about it, becuase I'm due in a month. I hate spending money.

Baby shower was yesterday. I will have to take a picture of my poor dining room. It's packed full of stuff. And there are bags of stuff I haven't even looked at yet. Sweetie's dad took him shopping on Saturday while i was out helping my friend get the food and stuff for yesterday. I need to take an inventory of everything we got, so I can figure out if it's possible that we are missing anything. The shower was at my best friend's house. She did such a great job with everything.

Today I plan on being lazy. But it's so hard looking at the mess and not doing anything about it.

I am kinda jealous of all the moms who've had their babies. I'm definitely getting done. I told dh, okay, that was fun, I'm ready for something different. I want to roll over, reach my shoes, and dare I say I'm sick of eating!?
I do have an appt today. I know i will measure bigger. At church yesterday, lots of people made comments about how I finally looked pregnant. And my mw congratulated me. She said there is a noticeable difference. Maybe I had a 1 week IUGR turnaround. LOL

All you gardening ladies impress me. I have a great backyard with a garden plot and greenhouse. So far the younger ones and I have started some seeds in the greenhouse. Very few. The plan this year is to just let M and G plant whatever they want and see how it goes. I'll pick up next year. I still need to get that CSA share.

I'm getting nestier too. We got the dresser moved out of M's room and set up as the baby dresser with changing pad and M's new dresser put together and filled. That was the only big task left I think. I still need to wash the cover on the carseat and bring the co sleeper inside. I'll do that today I think. I also still need a diaper pail for upstairs. A little freaked about the 2 kids in diapers thing, but I'm sure it will work out fine.
Oh, and we've had simple wonderful weather here too. The kids have spent most of their days outside playing with the neighbor kids. We are lucky to have neighbors who also homeschool!

I am in awe (and maybe a bit in denial too!) that May is almost here. I have an inkling that I'm not going to get some of my big projects done before the baby arrives, but I know that's normal and I'm just hoping to be ready for labor at least! Everything else can work around the baby. I've been telling myself I just need to make it to around May 8th at the earliest because of stuff that's going on the first week in May, but I'm expecting to soar past that date anyway.

I'd like to have more of a garden, but here in Minnesota it's still a little early to plant much, and I've given our little plot to one of our tenants basically in its entirety because I suspect I'll be too busy with the new arrival to really keep on top of it, and he's really excited about gardening. I'll have some herbs and patio tomatoes, but I don't want to worry about anything beyond that. A few flowers too, but nothing that is high-maintenance. I didn't have a newborn last summer and I didn't really keep on top of the garden then either!

RasJane, I'm jealous of your kids. ;-) I was home schooled growing up (loved it, plan on doing it for my kids) and it would have been SO nice having neighbors who were home schooled!

Other thoughts...May 4th? 4th?!!!! That's one day after my due date. Gah.

We had a heatwave here too...at the beginning of last week it was in the 80's, probably 90 on Monday. AWFUL. Seriously. Once you've lived in a climate like San Francisco, anything past 75 might as well be 100 degrees. And the only clothes I have that fit me at this point are my one miserable pair of maternity jeans...yuck.
Now we back to our normal foggy weather and for once, I am totally happy about it.

My 39 week apointment is on Tuesday, waiting for results to come back on a urine culture they did last week...the MW said I had protein in my urine. I've had no signs of a bladder infection though so...who knows. Also, I've realized, my mw's don't do internal exams! The last practice I went to (all OB's) did them every week from 36 weeks on...I kind of love that the MW's don't...but my curiousity might just get the better of me tomorrow and I might have to ask for one.
Other than that, I feel okay, just starting to feel very worn down. Some contractions here and there but nothing interesting.
I'm mostly trying not to stress about this whole flu outbreak thing. Anyone else just a little freaked out?
I too am tempted to get checked on Thursday (will be about 38 1/2 weeks).

I am sooo slow and sore today. DH and I took a nice walk on some easy trails for a half hour and now I'm so stiff and sore. I have a couple errands to do today as well, and it's still warm. I wear the compressions stockings b/c they make my feet and legs feel so much better...but they're warm.

Yet, I am thankful more than anything to be off work...ahhhh.

laura, hope your test comes back clear!
I got checked on Thursday. I don't think I'm going to get checked again until I feel like pushing, if I can help it.

I haven't heard anything about a flu outbreak. Of course, I also don't watch the news, nor listen to the radio and pretty much go nowhere online except MDC. (Sheltered much?)
my mw hasn't checked me once. I am super curious to see if anything at all has happened down there. Is it standard practice to get checked at least once at an appointment? I have my 36wk apt next tuesday I think and I really would just like to know. Is that too early? She'll say yes probably she laughs because I am so anxious for "stuff" to happen but she keeps telling me, "it's a little bit early for that!"
I don't think it is standard to get checked at least once by midwives. I've only ever heard of midwives checking at the client's request.

Yeah, I've been watching the news about this "Pig flu" thats going around. Started in Mexico I guess, and has spread from there. NYC has an outbreak now.

They had some guy on CNN today in Mexico city-you could see people in the background wearing masks. He was wearing one too--Around his neck, not even covering his mouth. I was like, "yeah buddy, that'll protect you!" LOL

Tomorrow is my 36 week appointment and my dr is going to do the GBS test and check my cervix..I'll be glad to know if ANYTHING is going on down there. I know it hurts, something better be happening..lol
post #20 of 176
My mw calls it "obeying the wisdom of the cervix". During pg, the cervix moves up, back, and closes up tight. The philosophy is that if it is that concerned with protecting the womb, why mess with it?
Babies come when they come, regardless of what your cervix is doing today.
