PP Weight Loss Already? And tummy loss...

I saw all the mamas on the PP thread saying they had already lost the pregnancy weight by this time. It is still April, so that's not even six weeks except for one or two people! I thought we were supposed to be keeping on at least 10 lbs if we were normal or under weight before, for our milk. Are you losing weight now? Are you even keeping track? Anyone else making an effort to keep on 5 lbs for at least six weeks? If you are losing weight, are you trying, and if so, how are you doing that what with the prohibition on real exercise?

And then there's the tummy. I can now wear most shirts but I do have a muffin top. I am not going to buy new jeans until I've lost most of the weight, so I am stuck in big 2nd-trimester jeans. Who's complaining, though? I have a baby!!!

oh I've only lost half of what I gained! which means I still have 30 to go.....

I'd lost 30 of 40 at 2 weeks pp, with zero effort, so that's probably my 10 for bfing. However, I had extra padding to begin with, so I think it would be okay for me to loose extrea. I've also notice I'm naturally eating a lot less, so maybe my body is busy burning reserves. I can fit into some pre-preg clothes, but they're the ones that were a little big before. And I have to be careful. Sat we went for a walk and I didn't realize my pants were a little snug in the crotch...yowza.

oh, the tummy looks fine standing...when i sit it becomes blubber city

Well, this babe is only 3 days old so minimal weight loss here. I actually got curious this morning, and I've lost 10 lbs, he was 8lbs 12ozs alone! For my last two children though, I most certainly do not lose all the weight right away. It's more like 9 months on, 9 months off. I do nothing but eat healthy, I don't count calories, eat to hunger, etc... I seem to need to hang onto the weight for bfing for a while, and then after it's gone, I lose even more weight and have to watch that I don't lose too much, I'm always underweight to begin with. It would be nice if a little more of the 42 lbs I gained comes off soon because my "fat" clothes are a good 15lbs away from fitting.

I've lost 25 of the 28 I gained... but I've lost so much muscle tone, the new me is quite a bit larger than the pre-pregnancy me. I'm still confined to maternity jeans and yoga pants at 13 days pp.

The pregnancy really isn't to blame though. It's that I stopped exercising. W/ my first, I jogged and walked several miles daily and was in much better shape pp.

I'm taking it better than I thought I would.... I mean the fact that nothing fits. Like you said, baby is worth it. Have to get back in shape fast though. In this economy it would suck doubly to have to buy larger clothes.

i've lost about 25lbs of the approx. 40 i gained. so i've got a bit to go. most of my pre pg pants are still VERY far from fitting, because of how much my hips had spread. i'm sure even once i get down to my pre-pg weight they won't fit yet because of my increased width. i've never really tried to do anything to lose or retain weight post-partum. my body generally regulates back to my typical weight relatively quickly and then just stays there.

I'm 4 weeks PP and still up 10lbs. I'm another member of the underweight-to-start-with club and hoping I can stay at this weight.

OTOH, I'm not enjoying all this belly flab. The skin is still tightening up but there is some definite fat leading to the oh-so-sexy muffin top. I'm still in maternity since I'm a good 2 sizes away from my prepregnancy clothes. Feeling kind of frumpy here

I don't have a scale, so I don't know. I'll be three weeks postpartum tomorrow, and can fit into some pre-pregnant pants if they're low-rise or were a little looser. Still with a little bit more belly flab/muffin top look, but the maternity pants are mostly sliding of my hips now. And my shirts are all too short because my breasts are too big- so I'm layering longer tank tops underneath.

With my first, I gained about 20 lbs. I was a pound below my pre-pregnant weight at my six week check-up (though my belly/abs were significantly softer). No dieting or strenuous exercise involved. At a year postpartum I was 20 lbs below my pre-pregnant weight. I gradually got back to my pre-pregnant weight around 20-21 months postpartum (coinciding with night-weaning and my cycle returning).

This time I gained about 30 lbs, hoping to retain a bit more for breastfeeding. I also would like to exercise more in the first year- after Neela I felt like I couldn't eat enough to feed both of us and workout strenuously.

I gained just under 60 lbs and have probably lost about half. I am of normal weight for my height usually & it will be a little while before its off!
I gained 55...but I think a good 5-10 of that was water weight (my ankles swelled up horribly) He was 7lbs 15oz and the doctor said my placenta was "huge." I've lost 30 so far (2 weeks later) so I still have 25 left to lose.

My tummy is also flab city! And those stretch marks I got during the last month? UGH SO UGLY RIGHT NOW!!!

I'm 9 days PP and have lost 25 of 30 lbs. My stomach is honestly almost flat. I don't know why, I definantly haven't done anything but bf My boobs have got to be the majority of 5 lbs because all my pp clothes fit great. This has been my most difficult recovery of the 3 though--I lost quite a bit of blood after my delivery and it took 5 days to feel normal.

I am so depressed about my body. I feel silly and vain, but I am. I didn't think I would have these problems, honestly. Because with DS1 I lost the weight immediately, within 10 days (not even trying just melted right off of me and I was eating like crazy) and I had a little loose skin but basically I looked just like I had before I gave birth to him. This time I did not gain much more weight during the pregnancy (I gained about 4 pounds more this time) But have new issues! First of all, I am STILL holding on to about 8 pounds (and that changes to 10 pounds on some days, vascillates between 7lbs and 10lbs when it's only 7 I am filled with hope and then the next day the scale could read 10 and I am so sad..). Secondly, I have much more loose skin - I look fine standing but sitting down - I see the loose skin (just noticed how bad it is today ) and I seriously doubt it's going anywhere. My bikini wearing days appear to be over ( I guess they should be anyway as I am pushing 40, I turn 38 this July). I am still wearing my compression garmet, I guess things would have been worse if I hadn't worn one at all. I don't quite fit it in to alot of my old clothes still and I don't fit into my capris at all. I am so depressed about it.

I'm within 8 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight. I hope eventually to lose that plus 10-15 more, to get back to a comfortable place. Or at least exercise more than I had been, so that I can feel sleek, regardless of size or shape.

I'm waiting for the six week mark, then will start a post-natal yoga class and walking routine.

most pre-pregnancy shirts are fitting, but only a few pants. So I'm in yoga pants, and some maternity gauchos that are actually pretty cool. Haven't dug into work skirts yet, though I expect they'll be ok. It feels good to be able to wear my favorite tops; I really hated maternity clothes this time around.

Still in maternity for the most part here, too. I gained about 45 this time (40 last time) and I've lost 25 at 3 wks. PP. I still have a bit of a tummy and it shows more when I sit, but I'm happy that I've lost as much as I have. W/ DS1, I had a c/s and it took 6 mos. to lose beyond the baby and water weight - it was terrible! I also had undiagnosed thyroid issues that contributed to the weight-loss hold and extra puffy look.

I got the OK to start slowly exercising today so will try to walk every day I can. I'm hoping to get that 20 off by fall. I wish I could say that hunger has dropped off some. It hasn't. : I'm craving more than I ever did as a pregnant woman!

Wow that is some fast loss! Though I only gained 24 lbs so I guess only losing 12 is not bad... funny how some people can just put on the weight & take it off so easily.

MT- try to focus on health and your beautiful baby. Your body will recover, I'm sure. Easier said than done, I know.

I normally don't care about weight but hearing about how much most of you have lost is making me quite depressed
I'm 2.5 weeks post baby and I've lost 13 of the 50lbs I gained. And normally I would think, geez I'm ONLY 2.5 weeks after giving birth! I shouldn't be so hard on myself, but I guess its hard to compare.
It makes it worse that nothing fits me right now. Mat clothes are too big and the pants fall down and all my pre pregnancy clothes are wayyyyy too small. I'm mostly wearing my 1st and 2nd trimester clothes, but most of those don't fit right.
I gained 50lbs with ds1 as well and it took about a year to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 150lbs. I think my 'normal' weight would be around 135 or so, as I'm only 5'4" and small boned.

Well Dawn honestly I thought we- i.e. those having lost 8 - 15 lbs, that is, baby, placenta, AF, and a bit of bloating- were normal, but I guess not! I did not gain 50 though. But I also am only two weeks and would have thought, no loss is good, but seeing our PP mamas thread made me wonder.

Maybe some more blub-happy mamas will join us on this thread. All are welcome!

Thanks Edna. I was going to edit last night (but was too darn tired) to add but I do have a beautiful family, which is so wonderful and makes it all orth it (and really how important is being able to wear a bikini? after all our bodies eventually deteriorate anyway regardless) and a husand that still wants me - at any size apparently LOL! And, anyway, most of us seem to be in the 8-10lbs at east of pre-pg weight so apparently that's normal. I guess the weight loss and great recovery the first time with DS1 was a fluke, but it had my expectations set to that this time too so I am extra disappointed!
