Rock-star attire for 4 year old?

My DD is invited to a to a "rock star style" party. Bday girl is turning 5. My DD is 4. The invitation requests that the kids wear "rock star attire." Any ideas here? I really don't want to (don't have the money) have to buy a new outfit for this.

And any ideas for gifts? Do I do something "rock star themed?" I htink this a Hannah Montana thing, mostly. My DD doesn't watch her (we only do PBS for TV) and doesn't have any clothes that strike me as rock star-esque.

Thanks!

I'm not up on the whole Hannah Montana thing, so my first thought was a black tee shirt and jeans =). Second thought was a shirt with some stars on it (if you have a plain tee shirt, you could get a small bottle of fabric glitter paint from Michael's or some other craft store/WalMart and draw stars on it yourself). Third thought would be to draw a guitar instead of stars. Last thought would be any brightly colored shirt. And maybe sunglasses? Or bracelets? All I can think of is really 1980s, which I'm sure is not what the birthday girl's famly has in mind....

Definitely don't buy a new outfit just for a birthday party. It'll be fine no matter what your DD wears. Whatever your DD wears should be comfortable...sounds like there might be some dancing going on. Have fun!

She could just wear a dress or jeans and whatever shirt she thinks is most rock-starish and you could make a pretend microphone out of a paper towel roll and some aluminum foil. Maybe sunglasses. You could do her hair differently than she usually wears it - it doesn't matter specifically how, just in a different way so she feels dressed specially for the party.

Sunglasses, bandana in the hair, costume jewelry, jeans with holes in the knees, spiky hair? Oh maybe one of those clip in hair color things?

Do you have a pair of jeans that are almost done for? If so rip the knees! Very rock star. Anything animal print, black, glittery. Lots of jewlery. Do you still have a crimper for hair? If not braid her hair in small braids the night before and when you take it out...instant rockstar hair! What a fun Idea this party is...I want to go!
hit the trift store for great finds...if the budget allows.

I would think something with glitter or sequins, maybe? Do you have any scarves or brightly colored play silks? You could put her in a t-shirt and wrap the scarf/silk around like a halter or vest to add some bright colors. One of those spiky, multi-colored wigs? Do you have a headset she could wear (or maybe you could make one out of pipe cleaners and foam cut to shape or styrofoam balls)?

As for the gift, maybe an instrument? A harmonica or a recorder would be pretty easy to find (and not very expensive). Maybe some maracas or one of those egg-shaped shakers or a tambourine? I've also seen those sound-effect microphones, but I don't know what the price range is on those.

If the birthday girl likes dressing up (which it sounds like she does) maybe a sequined belt or a feather boa or some star-shaped sunglasses?

Told to me by a very rocking three year old... (daycare girl)

"Pink and colors clip on hair" <--to be purchased at Claires apparently

"Lots of colors like a pink shirt and a yellow skirt and green leggings". <--I have no idea why.. rememeber.. she's not even going to be four til July.

"Sunglasses with diamonds."

"Tights with holes in them." <--which defeats the green leggings.

You would have had to see her light up with excitement when I asked this question... Apparently, she's been waiting her whole life to be consulted on fashion tips for the wanna be rock star.

LOVE the 3 yo fashion tips!! I'm so glad my question made her day a little brighter. It's funny, b/c my DD, who turned 4 in January, has just started taken a TINY interest in what she wears. And really, her only interest is in wearing her favorite red & white striped dress. If she can't wear that, she doesn't care at all.
