Flannel

I want to try and make diapers for my dd, and when I was at the fabric store today, the lady recommended that I use flannel instead of fleece, I went ahead and bought some, becasue she didn't have anything else, and it was extremely cheap, but I want to know how absorbant it is. Does anyone have any experience w/ it? I am going to try to make AIO's and was thinking of using terry for the soaker. Where exactly would the flannel work best? Thanks.

I have only made a few diapers so I'm no expert, but from what I can tell you can use flannel for any part of the diaper- inner, outer or soaker pad. Personally I have made a couple of fitteds with the inner and outter of flannel and the soaker was a thin folded wash cloth between the 2. I think flannel is fine for a soaker if your baby isn't a heavy wetter, or is a newborn, but I think a toddler needs more absorbant material. I hope this helps.'

Flannel absorbs and fleece wicks away wetness from baby's bottom, terry is better for the soaker however but you can get away with just flannels: Check out this post when I first started to sew diapers. The websites mention really tell you how to put the diapers together! Have fun!

For my covers, I'm using flannel for the inner and outter layer (with PUL in between). For the dipes, I use flannel for the outter layer, fleece for the inner, and hemp terry for the soakers. Seems to be working so far.

Thanks for all the advice and the links. I think I have pretty much figured out what I am going to do now.
