May IUI - Page 3

Hey all,

We've decided to close the door on my husband's sperm after a cancelled IVF (no genetically normal embryos to transfer) and are planning on moving forward with donor sperm IUIs starting in about a month. SO... I'll be hanging around here for the time being!

Hi, I'm new to this thread. DH and I have been trying for 19 months and have gone through lots of tests. DH's morphology is 1% normal, so we will do another SA to see if it was a fluke, but we will most likely be doing IUI in the near future. It is not covered by our insurance, so I'm wondering if it would be worth it to try a natural IUI cycle (I ovulate fine) or to go straight to Clomid or injectables. According to the RE, it's a difference of about $400 versus $2000. Also, if it is verified that DH has only 1% normal sperm, would it even be worth it to try? (I'm holding out hope, because he had a semen analysis at a local hospital with the WHO standards, and that came back 32% normal for morphology. This most recent one was done at our fertility clinic with the Kruger standards. That's the one that came back with a severe morphology problem.)

Any advice, or anyone who's been through the same?

Good luck on the new venture ladylaura!

Anne, I think there are several ladies here who have gone through something similar and will likely be able to give you some insight.

AFM, AF came this morning. I'll still have to go in for my beta tomorrow morning before I can do anything else. I'm out of the IUI game and onto IVF. We had the appointment with the RE on Tuesday and went over everything and signed a million consent forms. Looks like I'll be starting suppression (first with birth control pills starting tomorrow and then with Lupron).

Good luck to all of you this month!

Laci- OUCH!

ladylaura- Welcome to the group! I hope that your stay here is short and sweet. Sounds like you have a great plan in place!

anne- My husband also has a 1% normal sperm morphology. Our first child we went straight to IVF. We are newly pregnant with our second child after 5 IUIs (the last one being with Clomid and a trigger shot).

ok - so our blood work is starting to come back. So far, everything looks normal. I went to my primary doctor today for my blood pressure as the RE wants to get that under control this month before starting our IUI next month. She prescribed Procardia for me? Anyone else on here have high blood pressure and take meds? If so, was it ever a problem during your IUI cycles?

Laci - can you add me to waiting to be ready please?

Just need to vent! A girl I work with has been trying to have a baby for the same amount of time as me. She asks me a million questions but never follows my advice. I even keep telling her to come on here to ask questions that fit what she is going through....Month after month I hear her complaining about not getting pregnant and then she finally goes to her Doc who prescribes her Clomid. I asked how the process was going with U/S and appts. She informed me that she is just taking the clomid and will just see what happens (no followups, U/S or anything) I thought to myself, yeah right it's not that easy...

Well it is... because she is pregnant!!! I don't think I have any friends left that aren't pregnant. We test on 5/14 and if we get a BFN it's on to IVF with no help from insurance....

Need lots of crossed fingers please

It happened to a patient not too long ago and is nothing to worry about for the effectiveness of that shot. She noticed that some blood had gotten into the syringe and the manufacturer gave her a new one. If it was a multi-use kind, you should check for blood in it as it can compromise the drug.

I have my fingers and toes crossed for you becky

AFM they said I hit a capillary, I will check and make sure no blood got inside the pen. I have several small follicles but the BCP worked too good so they kicked the gonal up to 225!

Oh Becky, I feel your pain. It seems that everyone I know is either pregnant, has had a baby or is even pregnant with their second! (We've been trying for 6 years!) I miscarried last year, but today would have been my first Mother's Day. I did get a (God)Mother's Day card from my 6 day old God-daughter, which was sweet. Of course, her parents get pregnant just by looking at eachother! I am so emotionally drained from this roller-coaster, and yet, I don't ever want to get off. I so desperately want a little baby of mine own.

Good luck to all of us and I hope that we all have reason to celebrate next Mother's Day!

QUESTION???

We are on our 3rd round of trying to have a baby. We only did injectables this cycle and 2 IUIs. I had 2 great follicles and my lining was good...I have been waiting the 2 weeks to test. I went into this cycle knowing this is my month...Three's a charm! My test date was suppose to be Thursday but it looks like AF is coming. I had some bright red blood this morning and now some brown spotting. Called the Dr. and he said to still test in a few days but he also said it could be implantation bleeding. Although I thought implantation bleeding happened 5 days after you ovulate...He said it could happen 12-13 days after the trigger shot (and today is day 14) I am also confused because I am taking progesterone and I normally dont get a period until I stop the progesterone. He said it is still possible to get a period while on the progesterone. He said if this cycle didn't work sometimes the body doesn't wait. So now I have to wait a few days, although the hope doesn't seem to be there. I thought for sure I was pregnant but I guess it was all psychological. I peed on a stick today and it was negative. I know it is too early to test but I was hoping.

Has anyone had implantation bleeding this late or does it sound like AF?

I am not really sure Becky.

AFM: I have 4 follicles between 12-14 mm and am going back to the DR on Wednesday. I am quite sure I will be ready and that means IUI on Thursday?

Laci- That is great news! I am really hoping this is it for you!

Becky- I responded to your post on the One thread.

Laci - I am excited for you - GL

AFM - DH was diagnosed with low testosterone - so basically he is going through male menopause. The RE said they can treat it but not until we are pg as that will impact his sperm even more. I am realizing that I love my DH and want to be with him more then have this baby (which I do REALLY want). so, we will try but I am trying to make sure I am supportive for him as I know he is not excited about this news. We will give this our best shot...

The only rational answer is that you just need to wait and see.

The more detailed answer would be that implantation can occur more than 5 days after conception and the bleeding associated with it can also occur several days after the actual implantation, especially if it is brown. Spotting can also ocur for many other reasons during early pregnancy so, in theory, you could be pregnant and implanted several days ago and still be spotting.

On the other hand, it could be the early signs of AF. Perhaps you would have started your period if you weren't on progesterone and it resulted on spotting. New drugs, especially injectibles can also change your normal pattern.

I hope it turns out positive in a few days.

AFM: I still did not get my period, which is odd, making this one of my longest cycles so far. I also know that I did not ovulate once again so I am a little scared that I might not ever get a period again and that I am out of eggs.

Can anyone tell me what the process of IVF consists of. I have done IUIs and it looks like we are moving on to IVF. Is it longer? Just trying to figure out what to expect. These past 2 days sure have been difficult.

Thanks

Becky, I did IVF a few years ago. It starts with a month on BCP (which is so weird to take PNV and BCP to try to get preggers...) then, if I recall correctly, it is about 10-15 days of Lupron, followed by another 10-15 days of additional meds. The doc will be having you come in for blood work and u/s, often every other day. When he tells you it's time, you take a trigger shot and then go in for the retrieval 36 hours later. Depending on your Dr. and the quality of the embryos you (hopefully) create, you will have the actual transfer 3 to 6 days later. Then of course, you have the 2ww. So, between 2-3 months for the whole shebang. If you're lucky, you will even have embryos left over to freeze -- a frozen cycle is less expensive, faster and uses fewer drugs! Great good luck to you!

So I had a U/S on wednesday and the follies are now 19,16, 14, and 14 so they wanted me to do one more shot last night of gonal/lupron and I am doing my trigger shot tonight at 6 pm and then acupuncture/IUI/acupuncture tomorrow morning.
I feel like shamu-my estrogen is in the 1000 range and I am biting everyones head off.
