When your simplicity isn't entirely voluntary

Background: I grew up in a family of extreme, like TV-show-worthy, packrats, and as a direct result I feel the less stuff, the better.

We've been doing okay mostly, but we're three people packed into a 680-square-foot house, there's another baby on the way, and there's the distinct possibility that my mother might have to move in with us to provide child care. We can't afford to move, and we're not allowed to build on.

I'm feeling increasingly panicky whenever I think about how crowded it's going to be around here, especially if my mom moves in as she is still an extreme packrat (she would NOT be bringing all her stuff with her, but she generates new stuff at an astonishing rate).

Anyone have any tips on how to accept my future as a sardine and stop panicking?

hugs mama!! maybe try to declutter a few items every day until the baby comes. can you box up some things you might want to keep but are nto using right now, and keep them at your moms house while she is living with you?
