Looking for a global kids/cultural awareness curriculum

Hi there,

My daughter will be 5 this summer and we are wanting to really focus on learning about culture an geography with her (as that is a natural interest).

Does anyone know of a fun global kids type curriculum that would be appropriate for this age?

Thanks!

Rachel

The Enki curriculum (enkieducation.org) has a great Kindergarten program that we're using this coming fall. Enki is very multi-cultural. While there isn't specific "geography" for K, there is a large collection of fairy tales from all different cultures and nature stories too. You could certainly discuss the origin of the story with your child and look at a map. Ultimately, she'll learn quite a bit about any given culture from a story, and in a better context that she can absorb as opposed to a factual "culture" lesson, IMO.

Good luck!

we love the book "children just like me" - you could incorporate it into any curriculum & study geography based upon each child your reading about. here's a link...it's a little over $3 used at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Children-Just-.../dp/0789402017

we also like the book "people": http://www.amazon.com/People-Peter-S...0944370&sr=1-1

lastly, we studied holidays around the world. i used books from our library, along with internet resources for craft ideas. anyway - that's what we did in grade k. hth.
