newborn straddling torso?

My 9 week old dd is already about 13 pounds. I can't WAIT until I can wear the Ergo, because the sling kills my back and the moby is a pain.
I can actually put him in it, he's big enough and has enough head control to ride in the normal front carry, but if he starts to fuss, I'm paranoid that his legs are getting stretched too much. Is it too early to have him riding with his legs stretched across my torso?

I am certainly no expert but in Africa they wear babies straddling their backs starting as soon as their cord is off. The friend who taught me the method says it is commonly thought in Africa that the straddling is good for the hip development of the babe.

So don't take my advice as gospel but I'd have no problem with my little one straddling my body.

do you have the infant insert? I find it really comfortable, and it makes their legs go off to the side. I use the alternative way-- which is facing chest to chest, but then legs off to the side (not cradling). my 13 pounder is still comfortable that way.

I don't like the infant insert, it holds his weight too far from my center of gravity. I can't picture it tummy to tummy with legs off to the side... sounds weird. Do you have a photo?

I don't have a picture... do you have the dvd? it's the second hold they show for the insert, the one with the man doing it.

go here http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/support/instructions

I do it the way that is shown in the 3rd segment of the infant insert video
