Age ? and how far to walk

Dash just finished teething and it seems like he now has all of his adult teeth in. They started falling out about 2 months ago. How old would that make him? They said he was 3 months at the shelter, so that would make him 8 months old. Sound right? The vet we most recently saw thought he was younger.

Oh, and how far is too far to walk? We walk almost every morning around the neighborhood. I clocked it the other day and it was about a mile. Is that too far for a puppy? He keeps up fine and seems to enjoy the walk. He is still a bundle of energy by the afternoon, but a good game of fetch usually gets him back to lounging, . Oh and his is probably pushing 40lbs now....when will he stop growing, lol!

I've always gone by the rule of "no forced exercise" until they're done growing. So long as he seems happy to keep going, a mile walk should be just fine

What type of dog is he? That will give a better idea of when he will stop growing.

I think I have always heard 5mins. per month past 2 months as a general rule. So, if your pup is say 8 months you could leash walk them for 30 mins. If you take breaks in between, I would see no problem with even a little longer.

I really have no idea what kind of dog he could be . At the shelter, he was labeled as a boxer mix, but honestly, other than his brindle coat, I don't see any boxer. He has too narrow of a face to be boxer, IMO. His feet are webbed almost to the toe and he has floppy ears that make a triangle shape on either side of his head. Not a big barker, really laid back, very smart(housetrained in 2 weeks, learned tons of commands easily), and great with the kids. The vet doesn't seem to think he will get over 50lbs.

Let me see if I can post a pic. I left my camera at a friends wedding, so I don't have any really recent pics.

oh, he is so adorable!! not sure the mix, but if he bends into a little U when he is excited I would go with part boxer. I know APBTs and greyhounds are commonly brindle colored as well, but not sure if he is either of those. I don't see much APBT in him, but sometimes you can never pin point exactly.

No breed guesses here, but I had to post - he is so cute! That pic actually made me giggle. His brindle pattern makes him look tiger-striped! What a sweetie!

Awww, thanks everyone. He really does have an unusual brindle pattern.

That pic was taken during the time we were trying to train him to stay off of the couch, lol. I put the kids down for a nap and came downstairs to find him like this. Naughty little puppy .

My dog was done teething between 6 and 8 mos.

As for the walking, if they still have lots of energy, it is not far enough. lol. What type of dog is it? If it is a large breed, you need to be careful not to over work the joints, but a gentle walk could still be pretty far and be ok.

He's adorable!! I think you're fine just walking, I wouldn't run with him until he's older though - if that's something you're interested in doing eventually
