I've been looking at apartments and yesterday I found one that is perfect except for one thing...no washer and dryer hookups. We have a brand new washer and dryer, and since our baby is going to wear cloth diapers, I will be doing quite a bit of laundry and would rather not have to spend $5 a load and several hours just sitting waiting for it to finish. Anyone know how much it would cost to get the hookups installed?

It really depends - first of all, the complex may not allow it. But then there are all sorts of codes involved in the installation of a laundry room on anything other than a ground floor in many places - it simply may not be allowed.
Is the electric and water nearby to be run, or does it have to be run a long distance? We had the water hookups put in for ours about 2 years ago and it was about $200 or so, and they only had to move the water about 3 feet. We had new electrical put in last weekend (washer only), which had to be run almost 50 feet - while it only cost me dinner and supplies (BIL did it), supplies alone was about $100.
And don't forget that in most places this kind of work has to be permitted, so that's an additional expense - and since you'll be renting and not owning, don't even think about doing it unpermitted, or without permission - that's a good way to get evicted.
There's a reason most apt buildings don't have w/d hookups... water damage is expensive to repair.

ok pp had good points...however another thought is
if allowed by the apartment complex then I know it is possible to put your washer on wheels, wheel it to your sink, hook it up to your faucet and let it drain into the sink. They sell kits for this and my understanding is that it is inexpensive...having said that I know nothing else about it, just know my mom did it when I was a child. That won't solve the dryer issue though.

We don't have w/d hook ups either and it's a real pain. You CAN find washers that hook up to and drain into the sink, if you have room for that sort of thing (we don't). And since you have a new w/d already it seems like more of a hassle to buy another.
Keep looking. There are apartments out there that have hook ups.. they're just hard to find.
