What's the difference when using breathable PLU bs non-breathable?

Besides the obvious of "breathing" but why would you choose one over the other in projects. For example I want to make a wetbag. Which PLU should I use? Would breathable PLU make my diaper bag less stinky and the bathroom stink because it's breathing? Or is non-breathable better so the smell stays in the bag? What about cloth diaper covers do you always use breathable?

I always use breathable for diapers if I can get it and I only use non-breathable if it's a print I adore and can't get in breathable. There is a great breathable kind that is very stretchy and durable and I love it for garments. (Janelle's PULs carries it)

For wet bags, you could just use whatever, I'd lean toward the thicker kind (2 mil) for sturdiness and durability, but anything will work if it's sewn well.
