Jewish Mamas Thread - Page 2

So, to clarify, you're in the process of rehoming many threads that have been in FYT, not just the Jewish Mamas Thread?

I took a peek at some of the other threads in there just now- it seems that many of them could be moved. Several of them could go into Personal Growth, Spirituality, Grief, or Health and Healing.

Right now, it kind of feels like the Jewish Mamas tribe is being singled out.

YES! you are correct we haev actually been moving them for the past few weeks!!

We have moved them to TAO, PG, etc... you are not being singled out trust me. The FYT mods have been discussing this literally for months regarding some of the tribes that exist in FYT.

Can I thread-crash a second to ask where you're planning on putting the other ethnicity-oriented tribes? Women of color, Native American Mamas, etc.

We are still working on these decisions, the admins and mods will inform the tribes when this happens. THank you for understanding but since we really dont have an answer yet, I cannot give one.

I just want to chime in that as a Jewish mama, I find that a lot of newish members find us in FYT because of their cultural Jewish identity, but would never look in spirituality to "meet" other Jewish mamas because they don't feel spiritual about their Jewish identity - it's an ethnic identity for many, not strictly a religion.

This board is such a big, overwhelming place and I think FYT is a more natural place for mamas to look for those with these commonalities, than, for instance, multiculturalism.

Thanks for letting us discuss this here mods.

If the Jewish Mamas thread was moved to that forum then the others would follow. I just need to go over that with georgia since the forum was created to discuss parenting.

I'm not really familiar with that forum, but it sounds more appropriate than the current location.

It's funny b/c these (along with the Jewishmamas) do seem to be true "tribes"!

I hope nobody minds me adding my humble opinion to the mix.

I personally don't mind so much it being in spirituality now that it's no longer a 50/60 forum. That being said, I do hear how FYT does make sense as many mamas will still identify as Jewish culturally or tribally (sp?) even if they consider themselves something else religiously (or don't identify with religion at all).

I personally (IMVHO) strongly feel that the Multicultural forum would be inappropriate for the Jewish Mamas thread. As a multicultural family myself (Dh is Russian) the issues that come up multiculturally are completely different than the issues that come up in the Jewish mamas thread. Very few of the Jewish mamas would even consider themselves to be a multicultural family and I feel it would detract from the intent of that forum. Additionally, I don't think anyone would look for a Jewish mamas thread in the Multicultural Forum. I personally (IMVHO) feel that putting our thread there would detract from both the intent of the forum and the intent of our thread.

Thank you.

Thanks, everyone for their input! I'll be going over this thread so we can discuss, and we appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts on the thread. The entire FYT forum is in need of an overhaul, and we're trying to move tribes out where they better fit since the last FYT re-do last year. I'm closing the thread to new posts.
