Hello! What a great thread!

I'm new to the board, so I'll give a little info.

a. I'm a wife and teacher. We are TTC and are already parents to 2 cats and a large dog.

b. Currently, I contribute $400/month to our household savings (I work part-time). I would like to increase that savings to $800/month by significantly reducing monthly spending.

c. I joined the library (finally) instead of going to the book store. I'm an avid reader and go through 2 books/week.

I live 2 miles from the grocery store, but I typically drive there. I am going to walk to the store to save on gas.

We currently eat out quite a bit (we have good, whole food restaurants in our area). I will cook dinner at least 3 nights/week.

Well, I caved a little today. I got gas, budgeted, and stopped by Target to replace the garbage can that broke last week, not budgeted but not a frivolous purchase. While there, I saw diapers on clearance and added those to the cart, since it doesn't hurt to have them on hand. So I got more than I went in for, but didn't do so bad. Then, a little hungry and next to a yummy little restaurant, I stopped to eat lunch and half way through, I had a moment and remembered that I was trying to do a no-spend challenge. Too late now. Still, I left Target with less than I expected to spend, which is a bonus. And I took home half of the lunch to finish tomorrow, so it's $10 for two meals.

Types of Spending:

Unbudgeted/Unnecessary Spending
Budgeted Spending

: Car Free Day

1. $1,954.84 (AAA insurance renewal - paid 1 yr renters, 6 mo car), DMV car registration, groceries, rent) Expensive day, but no unnecessary spending!!

6. $23.81 groceries
7. $33.88 gas, $41.24 Target (garbage can and more diapers), $10.26 lunch out (cash)

Well, I've been spending, but most of it has been budgetted, so it hasn't been too bad... unfortunately, I had to go to Target today to get a present for dd's friend... I never get out of Target w/ only the thing I went in to buy. The hangers will hopefully help dds keep their closets more organized, the mini Boggle came is one I've been looking for because we travel a lot, but I have to remind myself that these little things are what might keep me from having the downpayment I want for our house.

5/6: Groceries, B'day gifts for dd, gas (all budgeted)
5/7: Gift, hangers & Boggle game ($18)... not budgeted:

Updating from the 2nd!

5/3: $9 Krogers for misc. food items

5/4: $13 shipping for stuff DH sold; $18 for sending hungry pregnant woman to grocery store with her mom; $3.50 for DD at Wendy's (forgot to pack her snacks for the car); $24 for movie and snacks for DH and I. Date night!

5/5:

5/6: $10 to ship Mother's Day gift to my grandma, will be reimbursed by my mom; $10 lunch after MW appt

5/7: Pay Day; $50 for groceries; $23 dinner after swim lessons; $8 for ice cream and coffee

5/8: $137. Dog has a bladder infection. $28 in gas and $4 for cheese to give dog his pills in.

Trying to cut down on the snacking while out doesn't seem to be working too well, but I know it's due to the pregnancy. I can pack stuff to take, but by the time I'm hungry, it doesn't even sound good anymore!: And dinner last night was due to the fact that my mom and I spent all day going through DD's clothes and I didn't get dinner made. It was a pretty expensive mistake, so I won't make it again. The ice cream was all me!
