I am 35 w 3 days, 2 cm dialated, 75% effaced. I know some people go for weeks like this, but I delivered early for my first birth, and very quickly. I need this baby to stay in until next Friday so the midwives will deliver at home. Any suggestions?

Can you put yourself on bed rest for the next few days? I would try not to worry though...two more days isn't much.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I have to wait at least 10 more days.

There is a great CD called "Baby Stay In" by Hypnobabies, and I know someone who recently used it and prolongued 3 weeks in a hospital setting, which is a real success.

Here is another testimonial:

I think you can purchase a CD or a download, but it sounds like something you can use.

Stay positive, and those 10 days will fly-by!

i actually checked myself last night and am very ripe, about 2cm (all the way through), and maybe about 50% effaced or so. i delivered my first at 37 weeks exactly and after 4 hours of active labor. i am 34 weeks as of yeterday. i feel like my body is gearing up, but i don't know that i'll go early this time, and i'm trying not to worry too much about it.

i guess i would suggest trying not to worry, talking to your baby and asking him/her to come not before a certain day, and just generally take it easy. if your body doesn't have all the right receptors to catalyze labor, it's not going to happen, even if you're walking around at 5 cm. also, remember that just b/c some mamas go early with their first, it doesn't mean they will go early with their 2nd, even if the cervical changes are happening early.

: for a baby to stay in a little longer!!

ok so this could totally go either way. my last birth I delivered at 36.5 weeks after lots of prodromal labouring for a weekish. it was pretty fast.

so this time naturally I was very worried I would go into labour early when I started showing signs at 32 weeks!!! I was freaking out! panicked and praying to make it to 36 weeks. and now? now I'm 42 weeks and I am still pregnant! my body likes to mess with me I guess.

what I mean to say is keep in mind the fact that you went a little on the early side last time and that you had a fast labour BUT also the fact that every last pregnancy is different. and being 2cm means little to nothing at 34 weeks. you could be 5 cms for weeks.

I would focus on if you're having contractions, losing plug or bloody show. if any of that starts, I would get off of your feet asap. take a bath is epsom salts, drink wine... etc. just relax relax relax until it was safer for your homebirth.

I've found that my body sort of gears up earlier but waits longer with each subsequent pregnancy, if that makes any sense.

Lay down as much as possible, stay well hydrated, take an omega 3,6,9 supplement, take a calcium/magnesium supplement and try warm baths for relaxation. If all else fails and you really, really want to try to stop labor try a small glass of wine.

My midwife was telling me yesterday she has seen great results with accupuncture to stop early labor.

: I used it with my babies to keep them in until at least 37 weeks. One came right at 37.

You can download Baby Stay In.
