Feeling 'practice breathing' in utero

I just need a little confirmation that I'm not going mad!

When I sit at the computer, I often have a hand resting on my belly. Twice during today I could feel the baby moving - but it felt like breathing. Up, down, up, down... for 5 minutes at a time. It isn't my heartbeat, that's much faster.

Baby has been LOA, but I can only feel this below my ribs, so is it practice breathing?

Yep, I feel the same thing but down lower. Its not my pulse and it isn't hiccups. I can actually see the rise and fall of slow breathing. You're not crazy

I was wondering about that, there have been times where I feel that, and it's like he is panting. Glad I'm not going crazy!

I felt the same thing the other day! It was super cool!

Thats exactly what it is - breathing practice. I've felt it on/off since about 28 wks and lately quite frequently.

I've felt this too! It has been similar to hiccups, as in I can feel it in the same parts of my belly. I hadn't considered practice breathing though... it makes sense.

Nope, you aren't crazy. I was belly watching a couple weeks ago and noticed the breathing movement. DH saw it too. I thought there was no way that's what it was, and asked my doc about it. He said it's entirely possible. We saw it even more clearly 2-3 nights ago and you could see it speed up and slow down, just like babies do when they're sleeping and dreaming. I even managed to get some video of it. It was so cool!

Huh... I totally forgot about babies doing this in the womb until I saw this thread! My LO has been doing this a lot, but I didn't realize until today that he was practice breathing! How sweet...

Well, now I'm not entirely sure that's an accurate conclusion, there's probably not too much "normal" on this forum

Absolutely!!! I *thought* I saw G doing this through my abdomen and then confirmed it during his bio physical profile b/c I saw it on the ultrasound at the same time. It's very neat, but kind of...odd...at the same time.
