What's Your Corn Reaction Like?

One of these days when I'm done all my research, I'll be answering these threads instead of writing them....

I'm wondering what reactions to corn you have experienced?

After not having corn for several weeks (except for potential tiny bits in baking powder and vanilla in the last 2-3 weeks) Dd had some corn syrup in a drink at a barbecue on Sunday. She had a bit of a rash and some scratching on the backs of her knees and inside elbows the next day, but it was hard to tell if it was leftover from taking her off of some juice that had ascorbic acid in it earlier last week. Since then, she has been way "off" in the mental sense: very clingy and odd behavior, screaming when getting dropped off at preschool, hitting dd2... and she's also very itchy (even though she's not necessarily breaking out). Does this look like your corn reaction?

First of all, everyone is different in reactions.
For DD2, she got eczema (inside of thighs) when she was littler. The last time she had corn, she was getting "folliculitis" and waking up all night long.

With DS, he had stomachaches all the time.

With me, it was one more thing causing back pain.

So even in our family, it's all different. And different foods cause different symptoms in each of us.

Thank you, this makes sense.
The behavioral stuff is what gets me--it's been about three months since she has been off like this. And I cant seem to relate it to a particular food. ugh.

For behavior, my DS's reaction to soy is much worse, and 7-10 days long. It's horrible - tantrums, screaming, crying. The problem with the top 4 (gluten, soy, dairy, corn) is that they're so pervasive that it's hard to find a day when it's not in your diet, and if the reaction lasts a week, then it is VERY hard to track down in a food journal.

That's where we're at right now--is the the xxx two days ago or the yyy last week. This may just be the biggest challenge of my life--and it ain't easy when the science experiment is being done on my 3 yo dd I know all of you here understand--maybe I need to join the chat group for more support.

Thanks Kathy.

For me, I get depression and an invisible rash.

I had a small patch of eczema on my face, as well as (tmi) vaginal irritation (until I "outgrew" the allergy). Dd had/has eczema behind her knees and under her arms, bad diarrhea, circles under her eyes, and a rash/folliculitis that starts on her butt and works it's way down her thighs. She would also get very mean and crabby.

the only visible reaction my son gets is eczema on his shins.. nowhere else. it happens any time he comes into contact with any amount of corn.

My reaction to corn is severe nighttime stomach cramps that can lead to diarrhea and vomitting. My dd1 also reacts to corn but I have been unable to match the symptoms with foods (I agree that food journals aren't as helpful as I'd like). We found an acupuncturist that performs acupressure on the kids to treat food/environmental allergies and sensitivities. It is called NAET and has made a world of difference for us.
