so she canget into 7th grade. I keep trying to expalin to her that she has an exemption and she doesn't have to get it but she is practically demanding it! I have explained if there s a situation where she truly NEEDS the shot I will gladly take her to et one but until then NO but she is relentless. Without me having to do a lot of research on my own can you ladies help me so I can show her this thread? That she is not going to perish if I dont get her the damn shot?

what specifically do you want to show her?? You can let her read the thread on tetanus here. Let her know that in addition to the local reaction, severe systemic reactions can occur. A partial list of adverse events includes headache; nausea; vomiting; arthralgias; tachycardia; syncope (fainting); cranial nerve paralysis; and a variety of neurological complications including EEG disturbances, seizures and encephalopathy; anaphylaxis and Gullian-Barre’ syndrome.
Tetanus is very rare in the US. There have not been more than 95 reported cases per year since 1980. This is in the entire USA and people do recover from tetnus is contracted.

according to Dr. Robert Mendelsohn
Quote:
The tetanus vaccine over the decades has been progressively weakened in order to reduce the considerable reaction (fever and swelling) it used to cause. Accompanying this reduction in reactivity has been a concomitant reduction in antigenicity (the ability to confer protection). Therefore, there is a good chance that today’s tetanus vaccine is about as effective as tap water.
Tetanus occurs in fully vaccinated people.

I would tell her that when she 18 she can choose to get a tetanus shot if she wishes, but until then as her mother you are responsible for doing what you feel is best for her in terms of medical care...end of story!

Ask her exactly what she thinks will happen if she get the shot. And what will happen if she does not. Then we can respond directly to her.
