I keep forgetting - lunch meat! When I was pregnant with DS, I would microwave the lunch meat before eating.
Also, soft cheeses. I LOOOOVE Blue cheese dressing, go figure I buy the good stuff, and get pregnant, lol

Sushi. I missed it so much when I was pregnant with my son... I suppose I can have the cooked stuff though.

sigh... I'm going to miss sushi so much... It's worth it though! And goat cheese. Oh well, plenty of other stuff to go around. :

I know I am going to probley get grief for this but I having been craving sushi like something crazy...I had some this weekend

Apparently soft cheese is fine as long as it's made with pasteurized milk - which kills the listeria (which is why we're told to avoid it).

so for lunch meat, I thought that was for processed meats, right? I looked at the ingredients on my lunchmeat, and it is roasted sliced turkey breast...

For me right now, I have to avoid cow's milk, talk about noxious gas! but that's just a temporary thing hopefully.

the sushi really makes me sad. oh well, plenty of cooked rolls to enjoy!

As long as the cheese is pasteurized -- 99.9% of the stuff sold in the U.S. is -- you're fine. And you CAN have sushi...just avoid the raw stuff.

For sushi you don't have to avoid the raw stuff... I really hate that myth!!

the fish that is used in most Sushi has been previously frozen to be transported and stored (it is the freshest that way) and the freezing kills as efficiently as cooking...

I buy my Sashimi grade Salmon and other fish frozen at the local fish place and make the most amazing sushi... and I will not hesitate for a second to eat sushi at any good restaurant...

Also... Soft cheese... as was said... most cheese that you buy in the grocery store has been pasteurized and there is no worries at all in that case, it is the raw soft cheeses that may be a problem, especially if you are not used to eating them...

That's what I thought too.

The only food/drink I'm avoiding is alcohol, which is a personal choice that I do not wish to debate. As for food, I can't think of something I'm not going to eat. My avoiding-because-I-have-no-interest list is long, though.

Thank you Paxye!
It's so weird, as soon as I get a BFP, I start feeling like I'm no longer in control of my body and my choices; I'm so ready to let anyone who's an "expert" dictate what's right for me. I'm going to have to work really hard to remember that everything has its risks and rewards, and that I'm the only one who gets to decide what MY beautiful, fun, stress-free pregnancy looks like. Common sense and moderation is what makes most sense to me... until the next 'lastest' study comes out and has me running scared all over again!:
So, a few my own little rules, for now:
-Stay away from coffee (mostly), but allow myself some black tea.
-Avoid all those great, gooey, stinky cheeses, and stick to hard and pasteurized.
-Bring on the chocolate!
-Eat cooked sushi, or make my own at home.
-Choose hot sandwiches, if possible.
-I'm OK with a half glass of wine a couple times a week after 1st trimester.

I'm sure I'll be adding to this, but that's a start! And again, these are just for me. We all have to listen to our own bodies.

Tuna - at least not too often anyway. DH and I researched it last night and light tuna is okay, but not more than twice a week.

So, no goat cheese, for real? DD3 is allergic to cow's milk, so I've occasionally treated myself to goat/sheep cheese.

I'm not really giving up too much, definitely not coffee unless morning sickness dictates otherwise. I've never eaten sushi, so nothing to give up there. No alcohol for me, I'm just not comfy with it. We rarely eat lunch meat, but if I do, I'll just nuke it. And I don't like anything the least bit raw anyway, so no problems with eggs or meat.

Being a vegetarian there isn't much I have to give up. I just have to be a bit more careful about protein and calcium than I usually am.

Scheelimama, nothing to do with food, but I just have to say that I love your kids' names!

Goat cheese is no problem if it is pasteurized... I personally wouldn't even avoid the raw stuff from a reputable source...

Yes this, though I'll probably have a small cup of wine or beer in labor...it really helped me calm down last time.

Last time I went totally decaf for at least the first couple of months but this time I'm keeping one of two morning cups of coffee. Other than that, I'm not really worried.

Whatever the Wee Bop wants, lol...right now, fried rice. MMMMM! :

Awww, thanks! I have to admit that dh picked them all. It will be hard to find another name to go so well with the first three. :

So, I'll have to check and see if the goat/sheep cheese I occasionally get is pasturized. I doubt if I'll give it up, since I only eat it perhaps once a month anyway.

Just saying again... most of those gooey stinky cheeses are pasteurized also especially if you are buying from a grocery store...

All these restrictions are just another way to control and make pregnancy look like an illness... do you really think that Japanese women don't eat raw sushi? or French women don't have cheeses and a glass of wine at times? If you make conscious choices of what you eat (buy sushi from a reputable place and if you are scared ask if the fish was frozen... if you don't live next to the ocean most likely it was for freshness... buy a pasteurized cheese instead of going for the raw whether it be cheddar or brie or blue, have a half of glass of wine once in a while but not more...

As women we need to take control of our bodies... make informed choices for ourselves instead of just listening to the "experts" that would rather ban everything 100% then just tell women what to look out for...

and just to say... my choices... I haven't been drinking coffee lately but I do drink tea, I avoid alcohol in the first trimester but will permit it in small amounts after... I eat raw cheddar cheese (the only cheese I eat) in small amounts... we don't eat processed meats or most other processed foods so nothing to avoid there, I eat peanut butter, I will make veggie pate and enjoy it, and I eat raw Sushi and Sashimi like there no tomorrow...

I just ate some really delicious goat cheese mashed potatoes. And when I was pregnant with my son I had an odd craving for gas-station hot dogs. Haha! How gross!

My biggest vice is soda! So I'm cutting back and sticking with mainly decaf variations when I do choose to drink it.

And check this! Dark chocolate to prevent Pre-E!

I also read somewhere that dark chocolate can result in a happier and healthier baby! I loaded up on dark chocolate truffles my 3rd trimester last time. lol

I have a decaf coffee in the am with a small amount of regular coffee. I really miss having an occassional soda. As far as deli meats I know they say to avoid, but I read a book written specifically on infertility and pregnancy loss and it stated that the chances on someone having a miscarriage due to eating deli meat was extremly rare.
