Garbage disposal problem

Hey mamas, I have a question. It seems that no matter what I do, our garbage disposal REEKS. We've tried putting a lemon in it. We've tried baking soda. We've tried pouring bleach down there for goodness sake's and nothing seems to work. We don't use it often at all, but if you pour plain old water down there, the stink comes up.

Any advice? We live in an apartment building with apathetic landlords (we're also infested with carpenter ants. Their advice? "Oh just kill them they'll go away" : ). I don't know what to do but this smell is making me sick on an almost daily basis (I'm really sensitive to smells).

Thanks in advance!

Man, that sucks. Have you tried baking soda, then pouring vinegar in there? If bleach didn't kill the smell though, I doubt that would help. Maybe boiling water?

Yeah, I read this somewhere...

I think it's baking soda & vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes, and then pour boiling water down the drain...

I'm not 100% sure though...
