calculations for yarn change?

I am making a summer top using recycled cotton yarn which uses a size 7 needle. I want to make the same top using a yarn that calls for a size 15 needle for winter to go over a long sleeve shirt. My question is, what is the calculations I need to do to make it work?

I have never done this, but a quick search brought up this page, which I think has the formula (bottom half):

This example shows how to go from bulky to worsted, but you could go the opposite direction easily--just reverse the math. Looks like you'll just have to know your tension and the pattern tension.

Good luck!

You know, I thought about that after I posted the link. I really don't know. I would probably do a little fudging personally, just sort of see how it's going and estimate from there.

I would *guess* that with a bulkier yarn, you would be increasing/decreasing fewer stitches to get the same overall result, since each stitch will be "worth" more than one of the stitches on a skinnier yarn. Does that make sense?

I guess the moral of the story is to experiment, keep track of what you do, and post here so we can all learn from you!
