I'm having my first HB with a midwife, but I am feeling so much back pain and misery all around. I cry each night and pray that I'll go into labor. I am so so uncomfortable. I am almost 39 weeks, measuring a week ahead, baby is in position but no sign of labor coming. I am having serious thoughts of going to the Hospital and being induced. I don't want to give up the dream of this homebirth, but I am seriously hanging on by a thread here.

Thanks for letting me vent.

It won't be too much longer! You're almost there!!!! Has your MW mentioned anything you can do to try and move it along?

I'm just under 37 weeks, and am in pain as well. I can barely get in and out of my car anymore either. I can only imagine how much worse it's going to get before it gets better. s

So sorry you are so miserable!! Those last few weeks are SO hard. You are almost there though--your baby will be here SO incredibly soon! You can do this.

Have you tried doing pelvic rocks? Those have helped significantly with my back ache.

She did a bit of a rough internal at my request on Tuesday. Some mucus followed for the day and some cramping, but nothing other than that. She did say I can try castor oil if I want, but I'm not sure about that.
I did ask my dh for some of his swimmers today, I inserted them close to my cervix as I could. (sex is just too uncomfortable at this stage or we'd do the old fashioned way).

I hear ya on the car. When I went grocery shopping the other day I had this shuffle going, could barely walk : (

Thanks Wendy. What is a pelvic rock? I may have done them but not known the name. I have been trying so much my head is spinning these days.

You can do it! Honestly I think birth setting aside being induced is not going to improve your labor and birth and it is worth it to avoid it if you can!

Things I have been told to help get your body ready to go into labor:
Raspberry Leaf Tea
Pineapple
Walking/ Stairs (just want you want to hear)
sex/masterbation (I think the orgasm helps too, not just the sperm)
acupuncture/acupressure
evening primrose oil, 500 mg orally twice a day

The baby will come when its ready and who knows how much any of these things will really help, but if you are like me it helps to feel I am doing something...

Good lucl!

I think I'd skip the castor oil. Not sure i'd want the side effects on top of the other miseries...lol

I bet you are sick of trying stuff and still feeling miserable!! This is really easy to do and I have noticed a real difference (immediately) after doing this exercise. I really hate to move any more than I have to at this stage of pregnancy but I've found this exercise to be worth it YOu don't have to do very many of these--5 at a time for 5 times a day is what I've been recommended to do (but if I remember to do it twice I'm happy). Bradley instructors are real into this exercise (probably a lot of childbirth educators are) so you very well might have tried it before.

No matter what, the misery will not last.

Oh here's the link to a good site on how to do the exercise:

Is it possible to go to a chiro experienced with pregnant women? I had some pretty bad back pain early on but the chiro made a HUUUGE difference!

Ahh, I hear ya! That was me a couple weeks ago. I felt so awful I was seriously fantasizing about going in and getting a c section! I thought I couldn't make it one more day. I actually feel a little better now and am trying to be patient. I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow and think I have at least another week to go. I think what made the biggest difference to me was to seriously take it way easier. I was doing way to much. So, cut back and cut out absolutely everything but what you HAVE to do and try to find a pleasant distraction. It sounds funny, but since I have felt such a strong nesting urge to be doing something productive, but can tell my body wasn't up for the task, I got me a pack of crayons and copied some neat file folder activites that I can make for my preschooler. It has been a great distraction and helped me feel not completely useless for taking it so easy the last couple of weeks. Hope you feel better and hope the baby comes soon!

All the ideas I have for you pretty much have been covered here, although I'd reiterate the chiropractor idea (I've been feeling a lot better since I started seeing one just last week). Hopefully every discomfort will fade as soon as you have your baby in your arms, and one way or another it won't be long now!

In any event, here's sending you good vibes and a big .

BTDT with my last pg, and I actually wound up going to the hospital after a promising round on contractions petered out! Fortunately they sent me home.

I think it's really important to feel like you are doing something to bring your misery to an end. I have used black and blue cohosh tinctures at the end of both of my previous pgs - do they work? I dunno. Do the contractions they produce help me psychologically? For sure. Chiro and acupuncture can serve the same purpose.

Cervical massage - 20 minutes on the 2 o'clock spot (where "noon" is parallel to the ceiling as you lie on your back) is what I happened to try the night I went into labor with ds. You will need dh to help with this one. It's good for them to feel useful!

Castor oil made me pretty darn sick. An old-fashioned water bottle enema with some blue cohosh in it might do the same thing without the ick factor in your tummy.

Hang in there, mama! Instead of crying every night, try a natural induction method!

With my DD I went 40w 6 d and had a pupps rash and hip problems. It honestly felt like torture. A good ciro can do wonders for discomfort.
