I admit I'm mainly a lurker, so take this for what you will. It's just something that has been annoying lately ...
On the vax forum (and probably other forums too), a lot of threads have been locked or moved lately. There haven't been conflicts ...and we haven't been majorly off topic. For the most part, it has been vaccine debates that have moved on to a health-related topic (which makes sense). Then, all of a sudden, a mod comes on a tells us since we can't stay on topic the thread is locked or moved.
Here's the thing though ....
We are all adults. As such, can't we handle a thread getting slightly off topic? Also, it only seems natural that a thread about vax would move to a health related topic (such as swine flu ...will they make a vax? What else can we do to prevent it?)
The annoying part comes in when I have been reading a really good thread, then all of a sudden it is moved to another part of the community with some people who I don't even know ....then it takes on a whole different life. It stinks. Even worse, sometimes it is just locked and we aren't allowed to continue our conversation at all.
So, my suggestion:
Is there anyway that ....as long as a topic STARTS on the topic of the thread (vax) ...it can STAY on that forum even if it drifts to health related to the vaccine?
Also, if we are discussing a TV show that has a vaccine issue in it ....can that PLEASE stay on the vax board too? (instead of the TV board) ...please??? It's a much different conversation that vax people will have about the show than just people looking to chat about a TV show in general.
I'm just not understanding all this moving. It's rather annoying.
I mean, I get some things ....like if someone posted "hey, did you see American Idol last night?" on the birth forum...I get moving something like that. However, I don't understand moving a thread that says "man, that natural birth on LOST last night was pretty cool, huh?" ...then said thread goes on to talk about the birth scene ...then thread gets moved to TV for being "off topic" (this is hypothetical ...no thread like that has been created or moved to my knowledge.)
Thanks for listening.
