Cheese Storage Options (no more pastic baggies!)

I'm stumped. Everything I try that isn't a plastic baggie dries out the cheese edges.

I have to admit to having tried only re-usable containers (too much air) and butcher paper (better, but still pretty dry and disposable anyhow).

Any suggestions? And I'd rather not have to buy something unless I can find it locally, but I would be willing to make something.

If you're just wanting to go to reusable, what about a wrapNmat? Not an option if you're wanting to get away from plastic, period.

Could also do waxed paper AND a container.

I have a set of pyrex glass bowels with the plastic lids and I put my cheese in one of the bowels. I have not had any dried out issues and I have been using that for about 4 months now.

I keep mine in mason jars... even if I shred it before storing it doesn't get hard.

Hmmm....good to know!

I guess the times I've tried containers I must not have had a container with a tight-sealing lid. I will give that a go! Thank you!

Not reusable, but ...

I found the best storage solution is to first wrap the cheese in waxed paper, then in aluminum foil.

I wrap mine in aluminum foil. I have always heard that it's best for keeping it fresh the longest and keeping it from getting slimy like it can with plastic. It hasn't let me down yet.

I don't know how your cheese is packaged in your country, but here it comes in a shrink wrap plastic that you tear open at the end. I just leave it in the wrapper it comes in and peel back the wrapper as much as I need and wrap it back over when done. I then store it in a reusable plastic container and it keeps it all nice without drying.

Well, I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but it is reusing We save our bread bags and use them for cheese (and other stuff). I also leave it in the wrapper it came in, but put the whole block in a bread bag. You can reuse it several times before throwing it away... If you make your own bread, that probably won't help you, though.
