Thanks for all the congratulations. We are sure enjoying or sweet little boy. So far he is a much more mellow baby than his sister was.

Thanks. You didn't really miss it. There was a 3-line announcement, no story. Didn't much feel like retyping my DD's birth story IYKWIM.

Wow! Kristen, it seems like just yesterday we met up for tea and you were expecting your first! I found my baby boy to be so much more laid-back that my big girl had been. Of course, then he turned 3 and 4 and 5 and it was all different, but I'm starting to see that more quiet character come out some days - all very fascinating.

Congratulations Kristen, and,

WELCOME JACOB!!!

welcome, jacob! I love the name jacob, by the way.

Does anyone have any experience with Krause Berry Farms? They use Integrated Pest Management. I'm looking for organic strawberries and can't seem to find a good source.

I used to work for them (South Alder Farms, owned by one of the 4 brothers).... what do you want to know? Thier strawberries will be ready in the next few weeks. There is/was typically a stand at the end of the driveway on 272nd St around 20th Ave. The Kruase Berry Farms has U-Pick but I've never done any picking there and haven't been to their location since 1997!

Welcome Jacob!:

not June yet, apparently!

I deny any knowledge that it is June. Isn't it still April?

kdt, I'm mostly wondering what exactly they do with the strawberries, in terms of chemicals. I'm a little familiar with IPM methods of pest management. However, the fact that in conventional agriculture, strawberries are quite full of pesticides...makes me nervous.

I guess I should just ask them again. I kind of asked, then chickened out when it got down to the details.

Oh, no - it's definitely June. Baby-under-construction will be here in 25 days!

Woh, I just came here to check posts and all the background's changed! Its sooooo white!

Krause...

I called them last year and asked about their IPM.

The woman I spoke with was somewhat vague, but the gist of it was that they "try to grow the strawberries organically, but if they have to use fungicide they will". I opted to get organic ones...

The Forstbauer biodynamic farm in Chilliwack has them for sale and for upick, from june on, according to their website. Never tried their strawberries before, but their blueberries are the best!

Wow, new colour scheme it seems? I like it!

Congrats on all the babies!!

Tricia, I'd love to be in on blueberries and raspberries.

Ellp: you said a jar of jam lasts you about 2 weeks. I have a problem with the jam I made last year - once I open it, it gets moldy in about a week! Can anyone tell me why it's not keeping like my store-bought (and apparently Ellaine's) jam does?

it may just have a lot less sugar in it? probably is a good sign!

we have summer how about you?

my little one (3.5!) keeps forgetting to nurse! i think we're on the verge

Do you put butter on the bread first?
Mine was getting moldy from the butter knife.

I don't do anything special to the jam, I just follow the pectin package instructions. Once the jam is unsealed, I keep it in the fridge. I've never had a jar of jam go moldy on me, even when I've had it for MONTHS! (Eg. when the jar's gotten to the back of the fridge and we don't see it thus we open another one...) I usually use a clean spoon or a knife to scoop it out though, maybe thats why?
