That WIC store indeed does sound neato. I hate when I get PB, and they wont let me get certain kinds at the store.. like they will let you get Jif, but not the one with all the vitamins etc. added. Same with cereals. You can get certain brands, but not certain kinds within that brand. But oh well, its still helpful, though it sucks having to run out of line and swap things out w/ two little ones trying to hustle behind you.
I wish our utilities had discounts for low income though, but none of them do. They tell us if we need help to go to the charities.
DH went yesterday for help with the power bill. They told him they only give out $ on mondays, they open at 8am so get there early. So he heads there at 7:30. He said he could not belive the amount of folks waiting for help.. like 300 people. The folks in a car near him had been waiting since 3:30 am, and got out of their turn at 10:30! Needless to say, we did not get any help, there is just too much of a need right now.

Oooh, I have not found a CSA that accepts EBT. That would be excellent! I canceled my CSA subscription awhile back to save money. I would certainly love to have that again. I'll have to contact them and ask if they'll take it when I've got the EBT.

Bummer that there is no low-income help for utilities in your area, sunanthem. (And thanks for the PM reply!) Ours cut 20% off, which is no small amount for us. It certainly helps!

We don't get the PB at all (we get all canned beans instead) because all the approved ones have HFCS in it

But is that because you personally choose not to eat HFCS or because WIC won't allow it because it contains HFCS? Anyway, I would love to be able to get canned beans, we use those a lot and making dry is a pain when you live at high altitude (takes all day literally)

We avoid HFCS.. and I live at high altitude too and hate cooking dry beans. I only got lentils and split peas when it was the dry bean option.

LizzyQ, that stinks that you can only get the crappy pb from WIC. Ours gives us the option of natural pb, which although it is conventional, it is only peanuts and salt in the ingredients. It is super yummy. I tend to get the pb for a few months and then switch back to beans until my pb runs low. There is no way we could go through a one pound jar of it a month.
